I read the book long before I saw the movie and I loved it. I like the book better than the movie but I love them both

I have to agree. I love them both, but they are two completely separate entities.

Books and movies don't have to have happy endings. I don't think anyone would argue that Romeo and Juliet is a wonderful play without a happy ending!
