Golfing Discounts

What are the discounts for golfing AFTER you have paid the $50 annual DVC golfing membership?

How does this work? Can you purchase it before arrival or must the owner do it after arriving in WDW?

We purchased the Golf Memberships for DVC members last time we went with the family. My husband and I both each got a membership as we had two foursomes. We golfed 3 days during our stay and the membership paid for itself for us and was a great deal for our family members. Plus, they picked us and our clubs up on the first day and kept moving our clubs from course to course so we didnt' have to drag them around with us. The transportation to and from the courses was also free. All in all we thought it was a great deal and we got in some good golf early enough in the morning that we could still meet up with the rest of the family before lunch.

We purchased the membership before our first round at the course and had a card that we had to fill out. Make sure you bring your DVC member card with you and allow for an extra 15 - 20 minutes to fill out the cards.

I made our tee times online as soon as resort guests were allowed and they just updated the cost after we got the membership.

The discount is dependent upon your tee time. Here is what the website says - •Save 25% on non-discounted Resort Guest 18-hole rounds before 10:00 a.m. and save 40% on non-discounted Resort Guest 18-hole rounds after 10:00 a.m.*

Great question, Thanks for posting. DH and his dad are planning on playing one round (18 holes) for one day while we're there in Dec. We're DVC members, but his dad is not. However, his dad is staying with us at BLT. Does anyone know what's the best route for us to take as for as a discount for DH and his dad? Thanks so much! April

Are the discounts worth it for 4 games for 2 people?

It depends on what time of day you want to golf. If you want to go early in the morning (before 10:00 AM) you probably better off purchasing the 2 round deal on Disney's web site -

May - Oct Rates for resort guests -
Weekkday $89, Weekend $99 2 Round Pass $140

If you buy the membership and golf before 10AM, the 25% discount on Weekday rates each round would be $66.75
4 rounds (2ppl, 2 rounds) would be $267 + $50 (membership) = $317
4 rounds with 2 round pass = $280

If you play after 10:00 am and get the 40% discount it would be
$53.40 * 4 rounds = $213.60 +$50 = $263.60

I would check the math to make sure, but that should be pretty close.

You've probably already figured out, you only need to buy one card if the two people are golfing together. I'm pretty sure the card is good for up to four people.

You can also get a discount on golfing if you are annual passholders. The discount is 30% off of the day guest rate. This discount applies even if you don't purchase the golf membership, which is great if you only plan to golf one time in a year or so. The only negative is that you can only book your tee time 14 days in advance (if I understand it correctly).

The DVC discount annual membership card costs $50 per year plus tax. You then get 25% off pre-10 am rounds and 40% off post 10. The discount is off the rate charged to WDW resort guests which is lower than the rate charged to persons staying outside of WDW. The member with a card can bring up to three other guests with him and all get the discount. You can make tee times (on-line or by phone) up to 90 days in advance. You don't need the card to make the times; you simply buy the card when you show up for the first round that you've booked. The "annual" card can actually be good for a little longer than a year depending on time of month you buy it because it always expires the last day of a month one year from the month during which you purchased it, e.g., buy it December 1, 2010 and it is good until December 31, 2011.

In determining whether you should actually go the DVC discount route, you must consider how many times you are going to play and what other discounts may be available. If you are only going to play one or two rounds a year then it may not be worth it -- you need to make up the cost of the card with discounts to actually save anything and that can often take two to three rounds (or one round with three persons) a year before doing so. Also, Disney usually has a two round discounted price (that has nothing to do with DVC) which can be less than playing two DVC discounted rounds before 10 am (that is most likely to be true in December for the ones going in December mentiojned above and thus if your objective is to play before 10 am you may want to go the Disney two-round route) If you have an annual pass, you can get 30% off but that is not actually better than than the 25% off DVC discount before 10 am because the AP discount is off the rate charged to persons not staying on site. However, if you are only going to play a few rounds a year and have an AP its discount can be better because you don't have to buy any additonal annual golf card. It allows you to make tee times only 14 days in advance but reality is that you can generally get what you want or somewhat close to it calling 14 days in advance.

There are also great discounts available to military members, retirees and dependents.

They seem to change a bit each year, but if you fall into this catagory it is certainly something to look into.
