Please forgive me if this is in the wrong forum, but I was just wondering who here has played golf at WDW (not mini golf, but the regular variety!)

DH is looking to play on our vacation and is wondering which course to make a tee time at. He is young and healthy, so he doesn't necessarily need a golf cart. He usually plays 18 around here, and is average to slightly above, so he would like something that is a bit of a challenge.

Which golf courses did you like and why? Also, if he is alone, will they just place him in a foursome? I don't play and we don't know anyone else who will be down there at the same time.

Thanks for your help!!

I'm not a golfer, but my husband is.... big time!! (handicap of 2) I reserved him tee times at Osprey Ridge and Lake Bonavista while we were there over Thanksgiving. Osprey was his first choice and LBV was the only other one I could get. Being a single golfer is not a problem. They put him in with a 2 or 3-some and he enjoyed both groups he played with. I found the reservationist quite friendly and helpful. My husband likes challenging links style courses and found Osprey more his style. His comment about LBV was that he didn't need to play there again but it was a well taken care of pretty course. I forgot about the cart situation there. DH prefers to walk, but I think they require a cart.

Next trip he want to do the Richard Petty Driving Experience!

A couple of weeks ago I had dinner with the man that manages all 6 WDW golf courses. I asked him which course host the finals of the PGA tournament and he said, Magnolia. Your husband might consider that course. What a great job Jim has, he golfed with Clint Eastwood the week before and said he is a nice guy.

I'm not a golfer and the manager of the WDW golf courses is the nephew of a good friend of mine. Jim has been with WDW since he was 18 yrs. old (he is now 40) and he said it is a dream job. His parents own a golf course near Indy so he is a very good golfer.

Hey, lisareniff-sounds like our DHs would be well-matched! On our next trip, the only day DH isn't golfing is the day he does Richard Petty. Also, virtually identical handicap (but I tell him, "For all the time you spend golfing, you'd better not be bad!")
Anyways, to OP questions-first, yes, I think all the courses require a cart and the golf fee includes 1/2 a cart. And if you're a single, no problem-they usually put you with others. DH also loves Osprey best. However, he also really likes LBV, partly probably because we stay at OKW, and for him, it's a very "homey" course-he can wave to me as he goes by, see our Villa, etc. His least favorite (I know he's in the minority) is Magnolia. I think of the 5 major courses, Eagle Pines is one of the least challenging, yet a beautiful course.

My DH isn't much of a park person, so I always schedule tee times for him when we go to WDW. He's always lucked out and gotten paired up with some fun people to play with. Last December he was given a "Magical Moments" certificate for choosing the pin placement on the 18th green at Eagle Pines. Embarrasing for him, because he's not really into Disney. LOL!

If your husband is looking for a challenge, and a beautiful course. I would recommend Falcons Fire, (a Reese Jones design course). It's not a Disney course. It's located near Old Town, east on rt 192. IMO, I prefer Falcons Fire over the Disney courses.

Not cheap but beautiful courses. We try to get first tee off in the morning (DH, DS, DD and myself). We rent their clubs (saves bringing ours on the plane and they are way better than our anyway-I believe we used cobras at LBV and Titleist at Eagle Pines) It's been a while but I think Eagle Pines has lots of water, LBV lots of sand. Have been trying to get Magnolia every time but has always been booked solid (or closed for rehab). Yes, I believe the carts are included in your green fees-allow 5 hours per game. If you get there early they have awesome driving ranges and practice greens to warm up on.

Gosh guys...thanks for all the great posts! I can't wait for Dh to get home so I can show him this (he's hitting balls at an indoor range). Surprise!

I keep telling him that some of these more popular courses are going to fill up quickly and that he will need to call early-on into our 90-day window. I am going to urge him to do some research and make his decision so he can call.

Thanks again for your help!!!

Hi Simba's Mom, I see you are traveling to HH in a few days. Are the clubs coming along too!?! My DH is doing a quick guy trip to HH in a 2 weeks! He has 3 tee times scheduled (Harbour Town, Palmetto Dunes and Old South Golf Links) for a 3 night trip. I think the idea of DVC in HH was a reason I was able to buy in!
