Golf Nut Day One - March 23

A little background: My DW and I have been a member of the Disney Vacation Club since 1994. We have always stayed at Old Key West (OKW) with the exception of a trip to Aruba and a week on the Disney Cruise Line. We are going to spend a week over spring break (a bad time to go) because Renee is a teacher. The big excitement about this trip is that my son Matt (DS) is currently working at the Magic Kingdom on Big Thunder Railroad. He is having a great time and we are looking forward to seeing him.

Since we have been there so many times, we do not get so excited about the rides as about the experience. Morry and I will be playing golf 5 days out of the seven. In all of my trip report reading, I have yet to read one where someone played golf during the trip.

We live in Stockton, CA and we are driving to Oakland to join Renee in flying out of Oakland. Our flight is at 6:30 am so we are meeting Renee at 4:00 am. We set the alarm for 1:30 am but it didn’t go off, oops. Luckily I am an early riser, I woke up at 1:53 and the race was on. DW had a very stressful week at work (Director of Nursing) and when we got seated on the first flight of the day she had a minor panic attack. I have never seen here like this and I was very worried that the whole vacation was off. She was able to calm down and carry on for the rest of the day (Woo Hoo!!!) Once she got a little sleep on the plane, she was just fine.

We arrived in Orlando at 5:00 and went to pick up our Dollar rent a car. We almost always get a rent a car if I am playing golf. It just makes it easy to get from course to course. The line for the rental was very long. It moved along very well and we had a very enjoyable time renting a car from Joey. He was just great, we upgraded from a minivan to a luxury car per my DW’s request.

We are finally back home. Lilith checked us into OKW. She was just great and before long we were in our two bedroom unit. If you have never stayed at OKW, don’t do it. You will never be satisfied with any other accommodations again. We had dinner at Olivia’s. It was a little crowded but we were seated right away and had a very nice dinner. We went to Goody’s to pick up a few groceries for the week. Two minutes after we walked out, Matt called and chastised us for going to Goody’s instead of Winn Dixie. Goody’s is like grocery shopping at 7/11. We have learned our lesson and it will not happen again. Lol

Morry and Dixie were flying in from Colorado. Morry works for Wisconsin Air and gets free standby flights from United. They flew to Chicago early in the morning and caught the last flight to Orlando. (whew)

Oh my..shopping at a 7-11 is like buying groceries in a resort store! Hope you have a great trip!

You are right! I never Posted about our golf experiences! My Brother-in-law is a Master Golf Professional and he and my sister used to go to WDW for 3 weeks in Jan. and stay at the CBR and golf everyday! We met them there many times and my DH and DS would golf also! I don't golf! Anyway they have since retired from a private golf course here in NJ. They are 48 and have no children and got out of the stock market before it went down!!!! They bought a beautiful HUGE Motor Home and they travel around the country golfing! How's that for a wonderful life. As a matter of fact, they met us in WDW this past Feb. They are now on their way to the Masters where my Brother-in-Law goes to now that he is retired! So there are other golfers here!
