Hi fellow DVC lovers...
I need help.......................
We are leaving for Disney's HH resort on June 15th....
I want to golf, but can't and don't want to pay for real expensive courses...
I'm more a recreational golfer.....
Can anyone HELP me out w/ some nice courses on HH that I won't have to take out a second mortgage to play?
We are driving down, so I will have room for my clubs this time...
If you can help w/ the names of the courses, tel#, and rates, or whatever info you can share.....
THANKS in advance....
Doug

Pick up one of the golfing magazines that you will find near supermarkets, etc while you're there. There may be coupons and special offers you can take advantage of.

If you golf in the afternoon, rather than the morning, the greens fees will be lower (but the temperatures will be much higher, so be careful!).

There are several golf courses in Bluffton (you pass them on 278 between I-95 and the resort) that offer more reasonable rates as well. In our experience, they are not always as well-maintained as the ones ON Hilton Head Island, though. ;)

The front desk at the resort can also help you with recommendations.

Have fun at Hilton Head -- we'll be there two weeks after you! :sunny:

We will be there the same week as you. DH and DBIL booked a 3 course Palmetto Dunes package for 252.00 and was pretty pleased with that price. DH says that off the island 25-30 minutes from the resort, Old South and Old Carolina booked together can be had for a decent rate.

Make the earliest tee times possible. Yes, you can save by playing mid day but what price is worth suffering heat exhaustion?

Gee, it's so refreshing to hear from someone who doesn't want real expensive golf courses. I think DH purposely picks the most expensive golf courses at HH to play! So I can tell you a few courses to avoid for that reason-do NOT play at Harbourtown-it's by far the most expensive. Also, the Ocean course in Sea Pines and the Hilton Head Country CLub (I think that's what it's called). There's some kind of special if you call after 3:00 the day before you want to play and they'll tell you what courses are available-BIG discount, but of course, DH won't do that, he's got to pick the most expensive way to do it. Some where around here I think we have a copy of that golf magazine with all the rates, but we just got back from the Grand Tetons so I'm not sure where anything is. I'll look for it this afternoon, and let you know if I find any more info.

We called the resort and they sent us a complete listing of all of the courses and the rates. They also had some preferred rates and they made the tee times for us. They also made some recomendations as to which courses to play. Most of the courses we played both on and off the Island were in the $100 to $125 range.

Summer rates start in May/June, so rates should be lower than the spring and fall (but not as low as winter). Rates will range between $50-$100, with the lower rates found at the courses off-island in Bluffton. Some rates below $50 may be had for twilight. Don't automatically assume that the Disney rates are the best you can get, they often aren't, so check the course websites, local paper, and course guide for discounts and coupons.

IMHO, one of the best values is the Eagle Pointe (Davis Love) and Crescent Pointe (Palmer) courses off-island in Bluffton. I believe they are $65 right now, and you can get a multi-play (both courses within 7 days) special for 20% off. They are located 10-15 minutes from the island, however. The nearby on-island courses (Palmetto Hall, Palmetto Dunes, Port Royal, etc.) are good courses too and much closer, but will run you closer to $100 depending on what time of day you play.

When my brothers and I went HHI, it was November and we had rates $100 to $125 per round. This was about 4 years ago so the difference in seasons and the fact that it was that long ago do make a difference.

When the brothers and I were at HHI, we played both Crescent Pointe and Eagle Pointe. Both are excellent courses and at $65.00 I'd jump on those in a flash. We played 2 rounds at Palmetto Hall that were enjoyable. One round each on different courses. We played the Arthur Hills and Robert Trent Jones courses at Palmetto Dunes. I loved the RTJ course, but had a terrible round on the Arthur Hills course (lost a record 24 golf balls). I chalk that up to jet lag because I only lost 6 balls in the next 5 rounds at HHI.

Have a great time on your trip

TRY OYSTER REEF ON HHI. a beautiful course and well maintained. good for all levels. play mid afternoon and the place is all to yourself. :cool2:

Check out the web site for Last Minute Tee Times, http://www.lmteetimes.com/. We used this free service mid June last year and saved over 30% of the green fees. We called after 7 pm and always got one of our choices of courses to play. We played Robbers Row, Palmetto Dunes and Shipyard. The Pro at Palmetto Dunes even commented on what a great rate we had.
I was alittle nervous lugging 2 sets of golf clubs across the country with no reserved tee times but it worked out fine. Just remember to call right at 7 pm to get first shot at the good tee times!
