Golf Club allowance

I think this has been talked about before somewhere but here's where we have a problem.

My DS and DH are taking their golf gear out to Florida when we go in October.
The trouble is my DS wants to buy new set when he is out there.
(Irons, woods, etc.)

How do we bring back 2 sets of clubs? We're only taking one suitcase (as my allowance) , but the 2 sets of clubs, as their luggage allowance.

Only other thing we thought of was ordering the clubs before we go out so he only has to take the empty golf bag, and then pick them up from wherever on our first day.

I think it all comes down to weight, if you are over your allowance what seems like a bargain will soon turn out not to be when you have to pay the extra at check in, your last idea sounds good to me, if there are a few of you going you can pool your allowance, (Direct holidays do it). If you think you might be cutting in fine with the weight, take a cheap pair of bathroom scales with you, once you have checked your weight before you head home you can bin them, Asda do a set for about 3quid.... good luck.

We all play golf, and we have done similar things over the years. I would suggest you order them first.. are you getting them from Edwin Watts? They are pretty efficient with emails, in fact you can deal with individual stores!!
Last year I wanted a new carry bag, so I left it in the villa, and a note to the owner/management company to say if anyone wanted it, to keep it! (it was an old Ping bag, but still in good condition). When we've bought new woods over there, we went without any, and bought some straight away.
I certainly can't see the point in carrying two sets of irons about?!
What courses are they playing? We know some real good ones, that are not as expensive as some of the 'well known' ones. PM me if you want details?!

Basically it says - You may check in your free checked baggage allowance plus one additional item of sports equipment providing the item weighs up to 23kg, and does not exceed the following dimensions: 2.5m x 1.00m x 0.80m (98in x 39in x 31in). Golf equipment is one bag containing: not more than 14 clubs, one dozen balls, one pair of golf shoes.

we travel and work with our clubs and have never had them included as luggage allowance.

When you pitch up at the airport your cases get weighed and checked in as your baggage allowance but your clubs or car seats etc.. go off to oversize baggage and are done seperately.

we have previously bought back 2 sets in one bag when we bought a set over there and there was no problem with that either.

we travel at least 5 transatlantic lfights per year with 2 sets in 2 travel bags, plus 3 suitcases and have never had a problem

Hi, it's great playing golf in Florida, I regularly do, mostly I take my clubs however I have purchased clubs twice in the states and it is no problems whatsoever, If you know what you want you can arrange to have them there on your arrival (so no need to take your old set with you).

We're going from Aberdeen via Gatwick to Orlando International. Saves the long drive down to either Glasgow, or even Manchester, before you even set off. (Did that once with Virgin). We usually go via Amsterdam with KLM though.

Be careful with the luggage allowances, I know that BA are getting stricter (think I saw something about it on here some time ago - I have lurked for a while before joining... )

Apparently BA will be becoming very strict on baggage weight (max 23kg) after the end of September - go to BA's website and check their baggage information links (my post count is too low to post the actual links... )

We are lucky, we go (and come back) in September.

I know I'm digressing from the original thread..
Doesn't always follow.. DH once bought a 'used' club here in the UK, and when we came back from the US, got hauled over the coals by a customs guy at Manchester. He kept going on about the club being a US club and that we must have bought it out there!! Nightmere - and completely unfounded!
