Golf Carts with 6 Adults

Hi all! We'll be staying in a cabin in May 2022, my party will be 6 adults.

Just wondering what my best course of action would be when reserving golf carts. I assume 6 adults can't fit on the 4 seater(if I'm wrong please correct me!). But the 6 seaters are first come first serve - what are the odds of me getting my hands on one? Pretty slim? Should I bite the bullet and reserve 2 golf carts? If I got there and there was a 6 seater available would I be able to drop the 2nd reservation?

We have several days planned where we would all like to stick together, so I was really hoping we would all be able to utilize the golf cart(s) together, but 2 reservations is a lot more $$ than I was anticipating. Any advice would be appreciated, thank you!

Well, since you asked ....

Reserve two Disney 4-seat carts (you can always cancel them).

There are only a handful of off-site golf cart vendors and I know of one that offers a 6-seat cart (there may be others). Kenny runs the Tee Time Golf Cart Rentals (google is your friend here) and they have a 6-seat cart available which you can try to reserve in advance (then cancel your two Disney 4-seat reservations). Being off-site vendors, you have some work to do to pick up the cart and return it but there is a significant cost benefit. It's up to you if the savings is worth it.

From the Disney side, if you have two 4-seat carts reserved, your reservation is charged in full on the morning of your arrival. Once you arrive at the Fort, you can get your carts and/or ask if a 6-seater is available (as you said, first come first served). If one is available they will swap you over to it and true up the cart charges (a 6-seater is cheaper than two 4-seaters). If one is not available, you can get what you reserved (two 4-seaters) and get put on a wait list in case a 6-er becomes available during your stay.

So PeggyPup, get a bird in the hand with a Disney two cart rental of 4-seaters. You can try to line up a 6-seater with Tee Time in advance or wait till you arrive for an attempt to get a Disney 6-seater. Again, Disney will true up your cart fees if you get moved to a 6-seater so you won't lose any money. There may be other cart vendors that you can find on the Net.

Do the best you can in advance and then try to make it better. Two 4-seaters aren't bad other than a little more expensive. May is not a busy time (after spring break and before the summer rush) so it might work out.

Wow! Thank you so much for the thorough response! I am googling offsite vendors now. Appreciate your help!

One of Kennys 6 seaters is the proximate reason for me never recommending or using him again. As I recall he only had a few of them.

Fair enough, @bigdisneydaddy.

When I was at the Fort last October 2020, our DIS buddy in the campsite next to me, @Teamubr, had a Kenny cart 6-seater IIRC. I don't recall him having a problem but the OP can PM him to see what his experience was.

I took a picture of his 6-seater since an off-site vendor's 6'er is as rare as hen's teeth but they apparently do exist.

Nobody bats 1.000 in MLB.

Nobody has a 100.000% satisfaction rating on Amazon/Ebay.

Nobody can please all of the people all of the time.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with your vendor as I would be with anyone.

That's why the OP has to decide if going with an off-site vendor (whomever it is) is worth the risk for a lower price.

There are more options than there used to be so hopefully some competition will deliver a better product in the end for us consumers.

Yep.

That was my Kenny Cart. I've used him several times. Never any trouble. His prices make it worth it if you are renting more than a couple of days. For just 2-3 days, I spend the extra $$ and just get a Fort cart. Picking up and dropping off site for Kenny is enough of a hassle for a short rental. The substantial price difference adds up on a 7 or 10 day rental though. Enough for a nice dinner at the Yachtsman.

That cart in the picture definitely is not the one we were given. Its a long story but the Readers digest version is that the cart broke down, phone calls went unanswered, the days I really needed the 6 person cart due to guests were when it was broken down and I eventually ended up repairing it myself. I was promised a partial refund for the days it was down but that never came until I disputed the entire amount on my CC. It was an epic failure.

The disney carts are the only ones that you can get on site, correct? We are flying so that seems like the only option.

if I reserve 2 4-seat carts and get lucky with the 6 seater will they let me cancel both the others without penalty?

Well the 6-seater can't be reserved in advance so you would have to make two 4-seat reservations. Then when you pick up the carts, you can ask about availability on a 6-seater. That's as soon as you will know is when you are standing there (which by that time you've already been charged for what you reserved). If one is available initially, yes, they adjust your total due and paid and refund any diff so you are not out any money in the long run.

If one is NOT available, they put you on a waiting list in case one becomes available during your stay and contact you when/if it does. And the money gets pro-rated then (# of days with 4's versus 6 and different rates, etc.). So they will charge you for whatever mix you use and refund any difference.

Bottom line is they will make it right if need be.

PS - yes, only ones on site (although some folks who rent a camper can get a cart delivered WITH the camper depending on the vendor - but you would have to talk that out with your vendor).
