Are golf carts readily available? I saw you can make rezzies a year in advance.

With the cart, can you drive it to the bus stop and leave it there ( or nearby)?

I looked at these pixs of the cabins, and I'm a bit leary. I have a weekender property with a small mobile home and these look similar. Please any positive vibes/experiences about these and the resort in general would help. Thanks.

I stayed at the FW cabins on my first trip to the World. There is good and bad about them. It is great to have the two rooms and a kitchen. The cabins are very nice, but small. The boat to the MK rocks. Other than the boat to MK, we mostly drove to the other parks. The golf carts are almost necessary and are very EXPENSIVE! You can park them at the bus stops and the boat dock and just about every where else. The couple of times we took the bus to other parks, we had a very long wait. Could have just been our luck! I have also stayed onsite at POFQ and was shocked at the great bus service. It probably depends on what kind of experience you want. We are NOT motel/hotel people and the cabins suited our needs very well. The campground is a beautiful place. If you are looking for a resort experience, this is probably not the place for you.

We had a wonderful vacation a Ft. Wilderness two weeks ago. When we checked in, there were no carts available for people who did not make advance reservations.

I would definitely make the ressies in advance...there were a lot of disappointed people hoping to get a cart for even just one day!

I am so glad I read about the advance reservations on this board! The carting was the highlight of our trip! We saw the fireworks and EWP every night, and just loved exploring Ft. Wilderness. The campground is rustic, but has all the creature comforts......and the golf cart is the best way to get around! :sunny:

The cabins are wonderful...Very private and so nice to have a WDW resort "apartment". Take a peek at the photos on the Disney website...It will give you a feel for the theme, and help you to determine if this is a place you may enjoy staying at.

We loved the cabins!

Ft. Wilderness and the cabins are AWESOME! We have stayed in the cabins several times and love them. We like the extra space, full kitchen, porch, grill, parking at the cabin, and being separated from your neighbors. The Fort is a wonderful place to escape the madness of the parks. There is plenty of Disney magic at FTW, but enough space to unwind and leave the chaos of the crowds behind. As for the carts, I would highly recommend reservations. I just made reservations for both our June and November trips. FTW is large and the cabins are a ways from the settlement and the marina area as well as the Meadows. Yes, you can drive the carts to the bus stops (Outpost or Settlement) and to the marina. You can drive to the Meadows trading post and the campfire area as well as to the pools. As you can tell, we are HUGE fans of FTW. As a matter of fact, my girls love it so much and I miss it so much that we have just purchased a camper so we can spend even more time at the greatest campground on earth! :cheer2:

We are huge fans of the cabins! I loved the extra room and privacy of the cabins. I loved the campground so much that I too bought a travel trailer. I have taken it one step further and Santa delivered a brand new golf cart to my front door this past Christmas :goodvibes . My girls and I will go down there during the summer and spend weeks on end and never, ever get bored. Be careful, you may enjoy the campground so much that you too will run out and purchase your own home away from home!

The bunk bed and double are in the same bedroom. There is also another pull out double called a Murphy bed in the living area. Allows time separate from children ;)

Can you plug the golf carts up to charge outside your cabin? I see on the photos of the cabins an exterior outlets. Are these suitable for the cart?

Does anyone have photos of the carts I could take a look at? Especially ones with people on them?

Thanks! :sunny:

Yes, the golf carts plug in the front of the cabin.

I love the cabins too for several reasons. As others have posted, FW is quiet and friendly. The kitchen and extra space is nice too. As a child we camped in FW almost every year so it is very nostalgic for me. I was surprised when my non-camping husband really enjoyed it there.

My boys, 3 and 6, love the golf carts. We were there in January this year and many of them seemed new.

I do have to say however, for the price of the cabin and the cart I would stay in a deluxe. The only reason we did the cabin this time was because my parents were there in their motorhome and my husband wanted to try it again.

I was told by a Disney Rep that you could take the golf carts from the cabin to the WL and hop on the monorail there, and that it was a short trip. True?

I agree with 4DisneyAddicts. I think it would be hard to stay in the cabins without a golf cart. And, the cart is $40 per day (plus tax, I think). So, in comparing the cabins with other places to stay, I think you have to consider $40 or so per day as part of the price of the cabins. Once you do that, some of the other hotel options start to look pretty attractive. We found the cabins to be extremely inconvenient.

Obviously there's no monorail at the Wilderness Lodge, but if you rent a golf cart at Fort Wilderness are you allowed to drive it to WL?

There is a path from Ft. Wilderness to Wilderness Lodge. Golf carts ARE NOT allowed on this path. Walking, jogging, bicycles and the Surrey Bikes that you can rent at Wilderness Lodge are allowed.

You can also rent bicycles at Ft. Wilderness, but you can't keep them over night like you can keep the golf carts.

The walk is about 15-20 minutes.

Thanks for the quick response! Last year we had a great time having lunch at Trails End and visiting the petting zoo. No one else in my party has ever seen WL so it would be fun to walk to WL and take the boat back to MK from there.

I stayed in the cabins in 1997 just as they started switching to the new cabins. We really liked it-quiet, kitchen, big, .... but I wouldn't do it again without the cart and like others have said once you add the price of the cart other options are more appealing.
