I just did some pricing for a trip in December '08. One of the considerations is a cabin at FW. I looked at reviews on Allears and several reviewers mentioned renting golf carts. I think this would be great as I have concern about the cabins and a friend with some mobility issues. If we had a golf cart, I think our worries would be over.

So, how do you go about getting one? How much are they? Can you leave them parked say by the boat launch or bus stop? Pioneer Hall?

Thanks for any information. :goodvibes

I did this a few years back and don't remember the price, but it was definitely a good thing to have as FW is pretty spread out (at least for the campsites and access to amenities). I believe I reserved one when I made the campsite ressie. You can park them wherever you go at FW -- boat launch, pioneer hall, etc. It was a lot of fun!

Last year at this time, they were $45/day. There is a little Golf Cart parking lot next to the front bus stop and one across the way from Pioneer Hall, and if you plan on taking the boat to the MK, it can be quite a trek to the boat from this parking area and there isn't one closer. In fact mom and I plugged our ECVs on there and went back to the cabin for a rest and picked them up after we had dinner at Trail's End.

If you want to take your loop bus instead of the front or back buses all the time, you can have one member of your party drive the mobility challenged person to the bus stop and then drive back to the cabin to park the cart. Then the driver can walk to the loop bus stop.

Definitely reserve in advance if you plan to get a golf cart. Although a bit pricey, they are very much needed in Fort Wilderness. I stayed there last year with my grandma (all the other resorts were booked) and it wasn't much of a pleasant experience. We didn't have a golf cart since they were all being used, and the nearest bus stop, although close, was too far for my grandma who couldn't walk. Bus transportation to the grocery store, etc, were also very hard since we frequently had to connect to different buses just to get back to the area that we were staying.

Even though I found that I didn't have one of the best experiences, Fort Wilderness definitely has a lot to offer.

Good luck and have a wonderful time :)
