how long do disney's carts go before needing charging? do you charge them outside your cabin at night? all info welcome. disney vet but fort and also golf cart newbie!

I would plug the cart in every night. I believe there are outlets to plug into outside the cabins. I know campsites have outlets to plug carts into.

At least every night, or every time you're near an outlet if you use it a lot. ZOOM ZOOM !

We charged ours every night outside our campsite and never ran out of a charge. We got ours from Kenny. Great Deal!

Besides the outlet at your cabin, where are the other outlets you speak of? We've reserved a cart from 4/5 through 4/10 and I've been wondering about charging in parking areas, etc.

Many thanks!

There are outlets at the bus depots, Meadows/pool, and Settlement/Marina... pretty much everywhere you can park the cart around Ft. Wilderness. You'll see when you get there. Enjoy your stay.

Thanks. I would hate to be an outlet hog. Do people unplug other people's carts? I'm one of those people who never lets my laundry sit in the washer or dryer (I hate the people who do). Is there some kind of ettiquette for charging at the "public" outlets?

It is first come first serv. As for unplugging other peoples cart it is the public who know what someone is going to do

Never had an issue with people unplugging our cart or waiting for the laundry machines at the Fort! Enjoy your trip!

I have over 2 years 'til our trip and DD wants to "camp" so we are compromising with a Ft. Wilderness cabin. We will be driving, so we'll have our car and bring our bikes. Is a golf cart absolutely necessary? Do you drive it to the bus depot and leave it all day while you're at the parks? Do you "tag" it somehow so you know it's yours?

Yes, you can park it while at the theme parks at the bus stop. WDW carts are numbered, for easier recognition tie a stuffed animal or something to it.

golf carts are numbered and so is the key. numbers can be hard to see in dark so tie something so yours is easier to find at night. cars can be parked in overflow lot near front bus stop but no car parking near back, boat to MK, stop. that includes HoopDeeDoo also. can drive to parks but around campground, no car parking at pools either. can park golf cart. cabin can be at far end of loop from campground bus stop, tough with tired children at end of long park day.

One of the most fun things about a cart is decorating it so it's easy to spot!

So, true! That's one of my favorite things to do when we stay at the Fort. :cool1:
We often do come back from the parks at night and it is so easy to spot our cart out of the very many that are there. I can't tell you how often I've seen people with exhausted children, circling the carts trying to find theirs late at night.

Can you rent a golf cart from an outside company, or do you have to rent from Disney?:)

We have had very good experiences with him!

Necessary - No for some YES for us! We had to start getting 2 carts since we had 2 DD's driving and were all over the place in the carts. We feel like the golf cart is an extension of our trip. When we do not stay at the Ft. we all miss the golf carts!

We just returned from 5 nights at FW. We had a great time and were glad we rented a cart for our stay. We rented from FW. The internal bus service, however, was perfectly adequate and we could have done without the cart -- it just wouldn't have been quite as much fun or convenient. We were assigned to the 2500 loop (2517) and it was a great location. I think the longest we ever waited for a bus was 7 minutes. For a boat to MK, we once waited 15 minutes, but that was not the norm. Usually was quicker.

We wished we would have brought a bandanna or something for the cart. That would have helped to distinguish it. We did tie a few of DD16's hair ties on it and that helped a little bit. We were also glad we brought a flashlight.

Finally, the cart rental folks told us that the cart would run 90 continuous minutes on a charge. We always plugged it in when we were at the Cabin and were only able to park near an outlet at Settlement once when we went to MK for the day. Never had any problems with losing power, but I think the most we'd run it on one charge was less than 30 minutes.

I appreciated the advice we received on this thread. It helped a lot.

I'm so glad I found this link. We are planning a WDW trip and are thinking of staying at the cabins at Ft. Wilderness. This thread has cleared up some confusions I had about using the golf carts.
We are planning a November trip. I read somewhere that you can make reservations for them up to a year in advance. With our trip being in mid-November, how early should we make a reservation for a golf cart?
