Golf Cart Accident

Anyway... I'm trying to understand the logic that breaking the rules and dangerous driving has anything to do with whether or not the cart is rented or belongs to the person.

The issue with private carts is that some of them are "tricked-out" with lift kits (which means they ride higher off of the pavement with larger wheels) and larger engines that presumably make them more dangerous than the "stock" carts that are rented out by the Fort. There is a school of thought that the people with the tricked out carts will drive faster and crazier than the folks who rent the slow, plain carts from the Fort.

While driving one of the boring Fort rental carts, I have been tailgated and honked at by folks with faster private carts. Not very often, but it has happened. The rude and crazy drivers are a very small percentage of the people who bring their own carts to the Fort.

This is very much a case of a few bad apples spoiling it for the whole barrel.

I'm new to the whole Fort thing, and the golf cart at a camp ground concept... I'm used to hiking where I want to go.

It would seem to me that a driver would be more careful with a golf cart that they not only owned but had a sizable chunk of money invested in custom mods than they would some rental. Seriously... people are more likely to be reckless with a rental, aren't they?

We golf and I know how crazy some people are with the carts there. I can't tell you how many I've seen stuck in water hazards over the years and how often the "stay on the cart path" rule at some courses is overlooked... so crazy cart drivers are not just confined to the Fort.

That was crazy. Wow, what a rant!! Reading all those comments helps me to appreciate the quality of folks we have here on the Dis.

I bike all the time at night at the fort and you will NEVER see me without lights!

I run a couple of headlights in the front so I can see anything I might hit or hit me and two separate flashing tail lights. Really don't want a Disney bus or other driver to run me down if I have to get off the sidewalk.

I thought lights were required on carts, I agree this needs to be enforced if this is true.

Aren't the cyclists subject to the laws of the state. We can't ride at night without lights and minors cannot ride at all without helmets.

When we camp at state parks in Florida, they clearly state on their paperwork that laws must be obeyed.

So I'm wondering if the Fort is "immune" to these laws or if this is just a lax security issue.

Yes, I saw it. I meant to get a photo, and I failed. I also meant to get a photo of the hippies with the vintage Airstream motorhome on 500 also, but I didn't get back for that shot either. I really need to move to the Fort so I can get all the photos I need.

Anyway, about that golf cart, I wanted to see how they got up onto it. There were no foot steps, and that thing was at least four feet off the ground.

I hope she makes a full recovery and gets to go back for the WDW trip of a lifetime. As in, Cindy's suite in the castle. It just breaks my heart!

Anyway, no opinion on the cart issue, as accidents can happen anywhere in a variety of ways. Just hope everyone is always cautious and courteous.

I agree. I couldn't believe some of those comments. The ignorance and pure hatefulness of some people amazes me. I'm never quite sure whether those anonymous commentors truly feel that way or if they just like getting people riled up.
