Golf at WDW

Has anyone played? Favorite course? If you only have a pair of golfers, do they pair you up for a foursome?

I am a poor golfer, just thought i would try a round at WDW.

i am referring to magnolia, osprey, etc...not miniature golf!

The best golf courses are the 2 at the bonnet creek resort (Osprey Ridge and Eagle Pines). Play after 10 a.m. and it's half price. I have always played as a single, and the courses usually are not that busy during midday, so you can play as a twosome i'm sure. Lake Buena Vista gc is a short course, but very tight, so don't let the yardage fool you. The Palm and Magnolia have lots of bunkers and water. Have fun and see ya there. We will be playing 4 days of golf starting sep. 20, so hope for no more hurricanes.

I CAN'T REMEMBER WHICH OF THE 2 HAS THE WATER OR SAND. ANYWAY, THEY ARE BOTH VERY NICE AND YOU WILL HAVE A GREAT TIME. GOOD LUCK.

DH has golfed them all, except Oak Trails, the 9-hole, plus 18-holes at Grand Cypress and the one at Celebration. His favorites are the Palm and Osprey; likes the Palm for toughness and Osprey for beauty. He's having fits right now because there is such limited availability during our next trip because of the Funai. He thought the courses at Grand Cypress were well-designed, but not as well-tended as WDW courses, and he said the staff at GC were rude and not very helpful. Didn't like LBV - said it's for golfers who hit short but straight (definitely NOT him. If you have an AP, call the pro shop before you get down there - the AP discount is terrific and it applies to tee times any time of day. It can be applied to your reservation 14 days or later before your round.

Big Daddy1 - My DH is a big golfer - his two favorite courses are Osprey Ridge and Eagle Pines - both are challenging though (he has a 4 handicap). But wherever you choose to play, just have a great time!!!

Its a well maintained member of the "original three" and is still the finishing course for the tour event in October (I believe). It's long, challenging and close to everything.

I've played them all. Osprey is nice, a little to artificially hilled. Eagle Pines is very similiar. Of all courses, Lake Buena Vista is the most open and easy. The Palm is just a bear !!

As for being paired up, count on it unless you're playing in the rain or late afternoon.

My husband golfs as much as he can when he's at Disney. They offer a 'Two for One' special most times of the year - it even beats the AP discount. Pay once, save your receipt for your second round (booked whenever you'd like during your stay)

DH has golfed them all, and likes Magnolia and Osprey. He's golfing the Palm and Osprey in November. They also offer club storage, instruction, and have a decent shop at each clubhouse. He said they will fit you with someone if you're booking on your own, more than likely.

You can also find a lot of WDW Golf memorabilia at the Character Premiere stores, as well.

I have played Oak Trails and the Magnolia with my husband. I'm not an avid golfer, but he is, so I humor him. We did get paired up when we played the Magnolia last December--with two really good golfers. We both had lessons the day before and, as always happens with us, our next round was awful! I was so embarrassed. We gave up halfway through the round!

We are going on Oct and are playing at LBV for the first time. When we called we asked if we could not get paired up with other people (as we are horrible or should I say I am horrible) and the women said that we can request it when we get there.

My DH plays 3 or 4 rounds of golf each year when we go - sometimes he golfs alone other times with a friend or me. He has always been paired with other golfers and we go the first or 2nd week in December which is traditionally a slow time. The only time he went out as a threesome was when the 4th golfer was a no show. The Tee times are assigned in advance and I don't think it will help to ask when you get there. I am not a great golfer but when I have played at Disney I had fun. A few times I picked up the ball after 8 strokes so I did not delay my fellow golfers and those playing behind me. We were playing with 2 good golfers and they were very nice to me. Also, be sure to play from the tee's for beginner golfers. The starter will stress you should chose your tee by your handicap and not by your sex. It will be alot more fun for you that way. They also have rangers who come around fairly frequently and they do not hesitate to tell you (nicely of course) that you need to 'move along' and keep up with the pace. My DH said he thinks the most 'not a great golfer' friendly courses are LBV (but you have to be able to drive the ball fairly straight there) or Eagle Pines. Stay away from the Palm if you don't like water. Have fun!!!!

My DS16 and I are playing Magnolia on our trip in November. When I made the tee-time, the CM was very helpful and shared a little bit about the course.

She informed me that we will most likely be paired up with another two-some. From my perspective that is a non-issue. That happens to us when we play locally, so why should it be any different at WDW.

I'll only bore you with what scares most golfers: water and sand. Magnolia has water on 11 holes and 98 sand traps/bunkers.

I am a very new and at best very fair golfer. Have only been serious about it for 2 years. But I have always wanted to golf at WDW. So, I booked a singleton at Oak Trail just to get my beak wet and on the assumption that it matches what little skill I have. DOes anyone have any infor re Oak Trail a hacker should know about?

I wonder why they told us that. They said we can arrive 1/2 hour before we are supposed to start and request to golf alone oh well!

we've played at magnolia and palm. we liked magnolia better. we were paired up only at palm. the courses were beautiful. and i know i will never see the other couple again.....

DH has always been paired up w/other golfers, but he doesn't mind. He's a 20+ handicapper, but he's played with golfers who shot in the 110's, and some who shot in the mid-70's and has always had a good time. He has shot everything from an 84 to a 112 (that one he'd rather forget!) at various Disney courses and his best rounds have been when he was paired with the better golfers. I guess some of their skill rubs off on him or something! Don't sweat it - just plan on having a good time!

I've played them all. Ospery was my favorite. A word of caution---DON'T go too close to the water. I walked into a sleeping gator once while tring to retreive my swimming golf ball. The Palm and Mag. get very torn up after a tournament so I try to avoid them. LBV is the easiest. My twin sister and I requested to play alone, on numerious occassions, and they did allow us to.
