I have not sween a recent thread on golf as a DVC member. This appears to be a missed benefit of DVC. I am golfing on 12/22/08 with a foursome. My BIL who used to live in Tampa has played all of the courses and thinks they are fantastic (with a nod to Osprey). He told me he used to pay a little over $100 to play. With the DVC golf membership ($50), a foursome can play after 10:00am for $59 per person. The rate goes to $39 between April and October 1. Maybe I'm missing something, but this seems like an incredible bargain for a golf outing with the boys. Book a room, play golf, and go to the parks on your AP later. That is some kind of a fantastic vacation on the cheap!!!!!! Only my DW objects. Am I missing something here???

I agree, it's a good deal. I've played all the courses and each has it's own personality. The best deal, no longer offered, was free shoes and clubs. I think this was only done for 1 year.
We go down on 12/11 and this time I have a T-time at 4 courses over 11 days. This is the 1st time I've played more then twice during a trip.
Don't forget that DVC changed the perk for the better. For an extra $20 you can T-off before 10am. One thing though, the courses are very nice but sometimes show how hard they are played, even with that, they are a joy to play.

My DH and I are going in January and he is planning on golfing solo while I do the parks. Any advice for him? He is bringing his own clubs.

He should look at the DVC golf membership from the member page. It costs $50 and is good for one year. It includes bag storage for the time of your trip. If he is playing more than one or two rounds over the next year, it will save him money. If he is only playing one round over the next year, probably not worth it. He should also call DisneyGolf to get a tee time. He can also bring 3 guests per round and they get the discount as well. I take a golf trip every year and have never considered Disney as a contender. We have stayed and played in Orlando before, and will now consider Disney for a round or two.

The annual DVC golf card is $50 plus tax. If you are only going to play one person/one round per year then purchasing the card and using the DVC discount generally does not make sense because the cost of the card plus the discounted round price will not actually save you anything. If you do multiple rounds or have multiple players for a single round then you should consider it. They have both a pre-10 a.m. round discount and a post 10 a.m. round discount with the pre-10 a.m. per round cost higher than post-10 a.m.. The pre-10 a.m. discount was added in 2007, making using the DVC discount far more popular than it was before.

The discount and rules apllicable are set out in the Member Benefits Guide that can be found on-line at the official DVC members site. The actual price per round varies with the season -- highest is mid-Jan to end of April, lowest is May to Sep, and in between is Oct to mid Jan. That just reflects that Disney's regular prices vary from highest to lowest to in between during the same seasons. You can call to reserve a tee time 407-WDW-GOLF (or do it on-line on the Disney World site) up to 90 days in advance for the lowest and in between seasons and 14 days for that mid-Jan through April season. Note, you can usually get something close to time you want even calling 14 days out. You do not need to have the discount card to make a tee-time, you simply purchase it the first time you show up at a pro shop for your tee time. There four 18 hole courses -- Palm, Magnolia, Lake Buena Vista and Osprey Ridge. All are good courses to play with Osprey being a nationally high ranked (Golf Digest) resort course. Magnolia is very popular because it is the one used for the annual PGA tournament in early November. If you are a single, you can make tee time and they automatically hook you up with others (their preference is to send out foursomes)

Both DH and my father purchased the DVC golf membership on our last trip. They were so excited. They play at least one round every time we go while mom and I are at the spa! Since DH will be chaperoning the senior class trip to WDW again and mom, dad, dd and I will be down there at the same time, they are planning to see if any of the kids want to golf. They figured they'd offer the kids the opportunity to golf with the discounted rate. It's a great perk for all DVC golfers!

Unfortunately, we're not members yet (hopefully starting the paperwork next week), but maybe by January we will be.

This is exactly what my DH does-golfs every day while I do the parks. He always meets some very nice people. I believe Disney will transport your DH's golf clubs to the next course he's going to play. I say, I "believe" that's the case-my DH always insists on keeping his golf clubs with him for those practice putting sessions in the living room of our villa. LLast year DS had an early morning tee time, the first of the day, and he got to pick the hole placement on one hole. He got a certificate and a photo, and I think the hole had a sign "the hole placement for this hole was selected by guest *** today." It was definitely his idea of a dream moment.

That is in fact "Pretty Cool".:thumbsup2

I was just poking around the AP site and found:

Golf
30% discount off Day Visitor Rates for the Passholder and up to three guests in the party. The discount is available on Day Visitor Rates for play anytime of day. Discounts cannot be applied to any other discount or special rate including, but not limited to, Twilight Rates. Tee times at this rate are limited and may be made up to 14 days in advance by calling 407-WDW-GOLF(939-4653)†. Advance reservations required.

This might not be bad for if you own an AP and don't want to buy the Golf membership:confused3

My DH & I purchased the DVC $50 membership and we have played all 4 courses. We live locally and like to take advantage of playing the WDW courses about 4 times a year. Like everything else Disney, the CM's do an excellent job of service. They are always friendly, professional and helpful.

My personal favorite course is Osprey Ridge, with Magnolia second. However, it sure is fun to tee off over the canal the boats use between DTD and OKW!

I am guessing your wife is not a golfer ?!?!

The golf is actually one of the many reasons we bought into DVC. We are big golfers and plan on working some golf in on some of our DVC trips. In fact we are looking into going down the fall of '09 and will be taking our clubs. It will be and anniversary trip for mom and dad and no kids this time!
