Goldfish!

This seems to depend on the individual fish. But most do very well by themselves. One fancy goldfish will do very well in a well filtered 10 gallon (commons, comets and other pond fish need 20 gallons and are, well, pond fish). If 10 gallons is still too big, you could always get a betta and a 3-5 gallon tank.

Here is a good site for anything you want to know about goldfish, the forum is quite helpful too: http://kokosgoldfish.com/ . There are a handful of other goldfish forums/care sites on the internet as well.

Remember to cycle the tank first (takes about a month) before you get your fish.

Thanks for the info! I'll check it out! :goodvibes

Here is some more goldfishy non-political goodness!

These two fish are pearlscales, also known as the 'golfball fish'. Some have growths on their head called 'crowns'.

There are still many other types of goldfish I haven't posted pictures of, like fantails, commons, comets, tosakins, hybrids, wakins, jikins, shubunkins, bristol shubunkins, ect.

Ha, they only last two weeks because often people have no idea how to take care of goldfish (and the fish are never in the best condition), and simply put them into a bowl or a small tank. (The type in carnivals need at least 20 gallons per fish). They do make good pets though, getting over 15 inches long and living for 10-20 years in the right conditions.

OK WOW, we do not have ours in so much water, I don't even think its a gallon of water but it has lasted more than 7 months now. The kids love to watch it poop. :rotfl2:

Oh dear. Are you planning to upgrade it to another tank? (7 months isn't that long when goldfish can live 10 - 20 years. They are very hardy, which led to them being kept in bowls and too small tanks).

I honestly didn't think it would live this long. I really don't have the room for a big tank.

i can't get over the size of the eggs they lay. how many fish come out of each one? they sure are pretty.

Hmm. Well, perhaps you could trade it in to a pet store for a fancy goldfish (only needs 10 gallons) or a betta (which only needs 3-5 gallons). Whatever you do, make sure to research the care and needs of any fish you get.

XD Do you mean the golfballs in the tank for size comparison?

Anyone want to post pictures of their fish?
:flower3: Pretty please?

Come on, I know some of you out there must have pictures of your goldfish you are dying to share. Don't make me beg!

I will show you pictures if you don't yell at me for keeping them with tropical fish!!
Because of your posts, I broke down and bought two fancy tailed Goldfish today. I swear..I was only going into the Petco for rabbit bedding, but your posts made me really want goldfish again and I couldn't wait for my few tropical fish to die....

Yay! New fish! :cool1: How very exciting. They look like darlings.

And I'm not going to yell at you, but if you do get too worried about keeping coldwater fish and tropicals in the same tank, or about the bioload, rubbermaid containers with a HOB filter and an airpump make very good temporary homes for fish (I have one running as a quarantine tank for an injured fantail of my own right now).
