Not sure where in the forums to ask this but I am strongly considering purchasing a house in Golden Oaks and was wondering if anyone here bought one and what their experience was like?

The number of people who have purchased there is so small, you might have to post on several fora before you can find someone.

You're on the budget board...

Maybe try community.

My understanding of the word "Budget" is anything having to do with expenditure. I guess it's been distorted to mean "cheap" or "inexpensive" these days.

No, but if you read the stuff around here you'd know it's not the people that would buy at golden oaks that are posting here. Doesn't mean there aren't people on this board that could, but they aren't going to spend like that for golden oaks. Even at the top is about a dollar saved anywhere is a dollar saved for disney. It's not about buying million dollar houses that you can't even live in full time or rent out, that's like the exact opposite of most people's mentality around here.

But you know, when there's a debt dumpers thread on the budget board, it's really cause we all have golden oaks mortgages we need to pay off, we just don't share that :rotfl2:

@mackmack , during our last trip, my mother looked into touring the community for a possible post-retirement purchase. The agents/advisors were very friendly and knowledgable. If you're interested, next time you're in town, definitely make an appointment to meet with one of their advisors.

I will do that, thanks

They actually just sold out the community. I have shown homes there recently and am very familiar with the neighborhood. Do you have any specific questions about it or the membership? Resales pop up from time to time, but are going quickly like everything else. You have the option to buy a membership at the Four Seasons next door, but that might sell out soon too. I'd love to live there someday, it's definitely what dreams are made of.

Thanks, honestly you just answered one of my biggest questions regarding availability. That is unfortunate but next time I am at Disney I think I will try and set up a meeting with a representative from Golden Oaks to perhaps see what my options are.

Seems like the gated community would be a big minus and the social stigma and isolation that goes along with that. Celebration seems like a better alternative where you could avoid those negatives.

Why can't you live there fulltime? Now I'm curioius about Golden Oak. Not for myself. I don't have that kind of $$. But I can daydream.

Maybe I'm wrong, but that was my impression. It's not meant for full time living. There's info on Disney's site about golden oaks.

We visited there shortly after it opened. Toured three different price levels of homes from $1.3 up to $3 million or more. Beautifully done but a lot of iron snd kind of old fashioned. However the kitchens and baths were to die for. And the larger ones had a small lap pool. No yard to speak of. The club house was lovely. On top of the home price the monthly cost would be several thousand dollars based on the size of your home. We could have afforded the cheaper ones but Not the kind of atmosphere that we would have liked for long. Too staid and well Manicured. It didn’t seem like noise would be appreciated. But it was fun to see it.

Though very few make Golden Oak their primary residence, there is no restriction against it. But definitely cannot rent the joint out.
They require a 6 month minimum if you do rent it out. Sounds fun to live at Disney for 6 months!

It's too bad they are sold out. Even 2 years ago there were no more left in the one million range. Anyone who bought there prior to 2020 could make a huge profit if they sold today.

Are people actually living here, or are these vacation homes?

I feel the carrying costs are outrageous. Make sure you understand the annual carrying costs before purchasing. Look at options at Evermore also If you can wait until 2023.
