Gold / lifetime passes

I seem to remember while growing up hearing about a gold / lifetime WDW pass that was available for purchase the first year that the park opened up. Has anyone else heard about this? Or even better, if it is true, does anyone know anybody that actually has one? Or am I totaly crazy?

I know they have given lifetime passes to people who were in the right place at the right time, like the 100 millionth guest or something, but never heard about them selling anything like that.

It would be nice if they did this but I don't think many people could actually afford it.
