Gold Key to the World Card?

My parents are staying at Old Key West. When they checked in, the front desk person immediately went and got a manager. The manager continued the check in and gave them gold (instead of the standard blue) key to the world cards. After check in, the manager of house keeping called them to be sure their room was in good condition.

Any idea what the criteria is for getting the gold key and slightly special treatment? This happened last winter also. They usually stay for about a month in a studio at Old Key West. I know they've escalated maintenance/housekeeping issues in the past, but nothing too major.

Their trash/towel housekeeping person mentioned to them they were listed as VIP's, and asked what their profession was. (They're retired).

I (and my parents) are just curious what the criteria is for this.

We got gold keys at AKV concierge. Not sure what they would mean at OKW.

We have received gold keys to the world for our concierge visits. I have no idea what else they would be used for.

The only times I have received a gold KTTW card is on my concierge stays. But if they stay a month in a studio that might have something to do with it.

Disney uses the gold keys to distinguish concierge and VIP guests. Although I was in no way a VIP, we had this same treatment when we checked in at GF for our Disney wedding (non-concierge). Not sure why your parents are listed as VIP, unless the manager flagged them for future stays during their previous visit when they had the issues you mentioned. I used to be a hotel manager for Westin, and it was quite common for us to do that...

Yes, gold cards are usually used for concierge guests at the resorts that have it. I'd say maybe they ran out of blue cards, but it seems strange that they'd even have the gold ones at OKW...

Perhaps there is a design change coming in the cards, and they are trying to use up excess stock of the gold ones?

Does DVC even have any sort of "VIP" guest classification? I've escalated maintenance issues before, and I've never gotten anything out of it... :)

Gold keys are for VIP's. I received gold keys when staying at BWV, Boardwalk view. We were designated VIPs because I had booked an event for 70 people in Epcot. We received Champagne, glasses, a leather Boardwalk notepad and pen and some other things during our stay. We also received daily housekeeping and turn down service.
The CM's at BWV couldn't tell me why I was a VIP, I just figured it had to do with me booking the event.

Heh...maybe they are classified as VIPs for staying a whole month in a studio, which means they'll be spending a fair amount of money on food at the restaurants... :)
