Gold AP for Family Question

My sister currently lives with us and does a lot of babysitting, so I was thinking it would be a nice surprise for her to buy her an AP. We are going in August, but she won't be with us at the time and it wouldn't be activated until her trip next April. I know that we can buy it for her now since she lives with us, but what happens if she moves before activating it? There's a chance she would be moving later this year if she gets accepted into an MBA program that is too far from us.

Basically, I don't want to give her a gift that is going to end up costing her money she might not be able to spare next year if she would be forced to upgrade it when she activates. Any advice?

Good question, can you buy it online and add it to her MDE account now? Once added they don't care where she calls home.

Even if they purchase online and link to MDE, the pass must still be activated at WDW. She still has to show proof that she resides with the member to be eligible for the price.

Good to know, I thought that in the past we just added them to MDE, I don't remember having to activate them.

In addition, you said her trip is next April..
I would check the Gold Pass blackout dates, as you could run into an issue in April.

Typically the member must be with the non-member family when activating their pass. But yes, if she was no longer living with you when she went to activate then she would not be eligible any longer and would be charged the difference between the gold AP and a non-member AP.

And if she is on your MDE, you could assign it to someone else in the family at a later date (someone who lives at your address). I've got one that I bought several years ago right before they offered the $399 Premium Pass. I bought it for our son and it was just sitting there in the nether lands until it showed up on MDE as a ticket. I'm using it this spring since he's now a CM and doesn't need a purchased pass any more.

As long as her license states your address it shouldn't be an issue but if she'll activate when not with you, I'd get with MS and have them direct you.

Thanks everyone! Thinking I'll go ahead and buy it and then if she needs to pay the difference when she goes, we just won't have her activate it and one of us will use it. Going to use a 7 day PH and upgrade so will do it in August. I think the trip next year is far enough away from Easter that it shouldn't be blacked out (very end of month).
