I stayed at por a few years ago and was not thrilled with the rustic looking room..lol. On the disney website they show fancier rooms with blue bed linens are all the rooms refurbished or are some still the rustic style?

Those are the rooms in the Mansion buildings. The Alligator Bayou rooms are still very rustic. Have it noted on your reservation that you wish to be placed in a Mansion room. They should have no problems honoring it, as long as you have fewer than 5 people in your room.

Yes, mansions are what you describe. They are now divided, 2 of the mansions are now specialized rooms, Royal Rooms for extra cost. Parterre and Oak. The other 2 are regular mansion rooms, Acadian House & Magnolia Terrace. I think these 2 also have the best location. I always request them, even before they put in the Royal Rooms.

Thank you so much i am glad i asked.:)

Thank You:thumbsup2

I think the "rustic" Alligator Bayou rooms have great furniture & don't look lesser at all. They have their own simplistic charm. We can't wait for July to stay in an Alligator room again! :thumbsup2

POR is awesome! :goodvibes

I agree! The alligator rooms are really nice. Our family has stayed in both the mansions and the alligators. Both rooms are the same with just different furniture and bedspreads. Por is wonderful no matter where your room is.

We never liked the rustic feel to the AB rooms either but since the have been refurbished, they are much more appealing IMO. They are brighter and look nicer. The refurbishment was a pretty dramatic change to the AB decor.

I had to stay in AB this past Dec b/c we had a party of 5 (stayed in Mansions last time) I was prepared to hate it but other than the beds looking like they were made out of Logs the rest was actually really cute! Its decorated around the alligator from Princess and the Frog.

You can always request Mansions if you have a party less than 5 tho..

I wasn't saying they were bad just that they weren't what i was expecting. Hopefully nobody took offense to my comment.

Of course not! Just that we felt the sane way until we HAD to stay in AB, now don't get me wrong ill still request Mansions! Lol

I have to say I am a southern girl at heart, so I adore the mansions. Oak Manor used to be my favorite, but now I love Acadian House.

But I was very impressed by the overall look of the rooms at AB when they first released the pictures right after the refurbishment started. It is still a bit rustic for me, but I would mind staying there once just to get the feel for it.

I appreciate everybody's input and i will definately requesting the mansion rooms.

My husband and I were originally going to stay at POFQ and then to surprise him I changed to Wilderness Lodge. He found out and was thrilled but did not want to spend the extra $2300. We watched many You Tube videos and decided to change to POR Alligator Bayou preferred room. We are staying for 12 nights. I don't like to live out of suitcases. I am planning on bringing 2 6 shelf hanging sweater bags. Will this be enough or does any one have other suggestions. I am also a neat freak and like to have everything in it's place. Plan to do laundry twice. Thanks.

Sounds pretty reasonable to me.

Good move on the change back to POR if you ask me ... thats a lot of money to save, if you got APs this trip (since you will be there 12 days anyway) your savings would be enough to pay for an entire other trip :)

We are thinking of staying at POR for our next trip, and I just wanted to point out like some of the other posters that the alligator bayou rooms have been recently refurbished and in my opinion, look really nice. You should definitely look up some pics if you haven't already. When they had the very rustic rooms with the "quilt" looking beds I though it was pretty hideous, and would definitely have requested a room in the mansions section. However now if we go I will definitely be reserving a room in the preferred Alligator Bayou section, I actually like them better although they both look nice!

Interesting. The last time I stayed at POR I decided to make a request for the first time in 10 trips to WDW (not all at POR, though) and requested AB (because I saw pictures online and really liked the rustic look of AB), and they had the quilt look bedspreads at the time.

OP, I would definitely recommend checking out http://portorleans.org/ as well as the POR FAQ thread here on the resort forum.
