I have been doing a lot of reading to see what, if anything, i should avoid going on with my 5XL Poh Sized DBF.....any tips??

I have found some great reading on so many larger people that have made their trips great but not so many that are 400+ lbs so I am worried and want to make sure my man is at ease before we go, so we can have more fun! Chances are we will get an ECV for sure, but its the rides im most worried about.

thanks DIS-ers!!!

My husband is over way over 300lbs and the only things that he cannot ride is Sum of all Thrills and the teacups. I would def look into an ECV, we're going to get one for my DH next trip.

and see how he reacts. Remember, you have to step down into many rides and equally have to step up when the ride is done. There may be rails to hold onto and then again there may not be. I doubt that you will be able to aid him much getting into and out of rides.

Depending on his height and how wide he is in the hips will be a determining factor with some rides. Does he have agility or does he have knee issues?

At the worse, just enjoy shows, fireworks and parades and a few rides. There's street entertainment at all the parks. We take my mom who is 90, in a wheelchair, and has other issues and we still have a good time.

There's a book that's helpful called Passporter's Open Mouse that details the size of the rides. Go to the All Ears website and get some hints there; it's called Walt Disney World at Large in that site.

Do a web search and take a look at what others have to say about being bigger at WDW. There are plenty of opinions out there for those who have done it larger. I did a search Disney World for fat people; there was a ton of info there.

The only ride I had some minor issues with was the Tomorrowland speedway. It was hard to climb out of and I felt a little smushed. I'm 5'3", 240 lbs.

He does have knee problems. I did check out allears actually and they had a TOn of great info. There is even a page with pictures of the ride vehicles for every ride so my DBF can see them and it should ease his mind. I think he has been surprised to know that there is so much he can actually do! Im so excited to take him!

Thanks for all the replies, i really appreciate it!!!

Hi, I am 6'3" and 465lbs... I just returned from Disneyland and had a great time. I didn't ride any of the coasters but did go on Star Tours, Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan, Roger Rabbit, Toy Story, Jungle Cruise, Winnie the Pooh, etc... I had some hip issues getting in on Star Tours, Indiana Jones, but other than that I was ok...

I went to WDW with a 6'5 450 lbs friend a few years back. There were a few things he had trouble with but for the most part it was all fine.

He had a lot of trouble on the cars on Space Mt. He rode it, but he was very uncomfortable. The seats were too small in the Little Mermaid theater, but there was a bench in the back.

A couple of hints...

Pull seat belts ALL the way out before sitting down. It's much easier than trying to dig them out from under your rear end.

When there is a turnstile, just ask or motion to the CM that you wish to go thru the gate that swings open for wheelchairs.

Some rides have cars outside so you can take pictures - or check how tight a fit it will be ;)

"Try not to step on any of the little people." :)

Seriously, that's DH's biggest woe at DL. Small children bolt in front of him and since they're about kneecap height he doesn't always see them in time to stop.

As far as rides go, he avoids sharing a seat with small children when there's a lapbar, doesn't ride closed cages on Casey Jr. and won't get on Mullholland Madness/Goofy's Sky School ever again. Mostly he runs into height issues more than width issues.

Have a wonderful time!

My BF is also "pooh sized". The first time we went to Disney, he was worried that he wouldn't be able to fit in much because at other theme parks like Universal and Busch Gardens there isn't much there for him to do. He was concerned that he wouldn't be able to fit in the rides, but we were pleasantly surprised that he fit in to all of them! The only one he said was just a little snug was SM, but he was OK getting in and out of it. My advice would be to tell your BF to at least try getting on. If it's too small, just get up and walk out. I used the "your never going to see this people again" approach with my BF. You never know until you try, so just give it a shot! And if he doesn't fit in to something, or doesn't feel comfortable trying because it looks to small, just take his hand, tell him it's OK, and find something else to do to get his mind off of it. I think you guys will be very happy with the amount of rides he will be able to enjoy! Have a great trip!

Luckily BF isnt into roller coasters in general, not sure if its his size or just an actual dislike but it makes the idea of maybe fitting on SM easier because we just wont do it. And thanks for the tips, i will def be using them!!!

I def get the fear of running over little ones but the fact that he will even agree to get an ECV is a HUGE step for him, so hopefully there are no kid casualties LOL

I def think he doesnt realize how much more he can do in WDW than in any other theme park, its all the more why my mission is to get him there because I know he will love it as much as I do. I am def going with the you'll never see these people thing too! Thanks so much!
