Going to WDW two weeks after my points can be borrowed?

How would you do this?

We used all of our 2012 and 2013 points at New Years. We are thinking of taking the kids over spring break 2014. Resort preference would be AKV but SSR or OKW (or any) are fine too.

Use Year is March. I have 120 points available to borrow. Spring break is usually the third week in March.

I have my 2014 points available to borrow and make a reservation now. Then I would have to hope and pray that when my points become available to borrow again in 2014 (my 120 2015 points) that I could add the rest of my dates onto the trip.

I could also use the 2014 borrowed points and then rent transferred points to finish up the rest and then I guess rent my points out when they become available to recoup the cost.

Are there any other scenarios I haven't thought of? (besides buying more points- which is actually my first choice..lol)

March 8-16. We probably won't stay the entire time, it'll be more like 5-6 days within that time period.

If you have a March use year and you want to go in March 2014, then:

1. Any points you will have from your March 2014 use year will be your "current" use year points for that trip because that trip occurs after the use year starts on March 1, 2014. Thus, you would not borrow those.

2. You can borrow for that trip points from your March 2015 use year.

3. You can call 11 months out for home resort (7 for others) and make a reservation using those "current" March 2014 use year points and borrowed points from March 2015.

When determining points to use for a reservation follow this rule: You can always call 11 months out at home resort or 7 at others to make reservation and, when determining which points you can use as current, banked or borrowed, wipe from your mind the date you are calling to reserve and think only of the dates you will be at WDW.

If you are making a reservation for March 2014, and your UY is March, you would be using 120 points from 2014 and can borrow 120 points from 2015.

You would only borrow 2014 points if your reservation is before 3/1/2014.

That was how I interpreted the OP's question, too.

Booking dates have nothing to do with use year. You are always allowed to book your home resort at 11 months before check-in, and non-home resorts at 7 months before check-in. All borrowing transactions are done at the time of booking. The fact that you want to borrow points from a future use year doesn't change the 11/7 month booking windows.

Don't think of points as being "put into your account" for use in a booking. You can borrow them anytime you're within your booking window, regardless of where you are in your use year. For borrowing, it's the night of the stay that matters, not the date you book that stay.

Your March 2014 points are available to use for any stays from March 1, 2014-Feb 28, 2015.

Your March 2015 points are available to use for any stays from March 1, 2015-Feb 28, 2016 or you may borrow them into your 2014 UY and use them for any stay from March 1, 2014-Feb 28, 2015.

On April 8, 2013 you can call or go online and book your reservation for check in beginning March 8, 2014 at your home resort using your 2014 points and borrowing any 2015 points you need to. Or on August 8, 2013 you can call or go online and book a stay beginning March 8, 2014 at any resort with availability using your 2014 points and borrow any 2015 points needed.

When booking it doesn't matter when you call (except for the 11 month home resort/7 month any resort restrictions) - only that you have points that are available to be used for the timeframe you are planning the stay.

When you bought your contract you purchased the points for all the years until the contract ends so there's no hoping and praying that points become available. They are already there.

And to give an example....

I have a Feb UY. I have some points left in the 2014 year (borrowed most of them into 2013 and used 'em already). We're thinking of an early February 2014 stay.

They are 2014 UY, and I can use those points for a stay from Feb 1 2014. Since I can book that now (it's inside my 11 months if I want to stay at Bay Lake), I can utilize those 2014 UY points NOW for that reservation.

If I want to make the trip longer than the few 2014 points I have left, when I make that reservation I could borrow from my 2015 UY points. All while booking in 2013.


You'll be the same once we're in April and your 11 month window opens for your dates. You'll be able to use your 2014 points for the March 2014 trip without borrowing. And if it goes over, you will be able to borrow from your 2015 UY, for your 2014 trip, booking in 2013.


I hope that all the different ways of explaining it helps you! Peoples' minds work in different ways, so while it might seem overwhelming, I know the HOPE is that at least one of the ways will be worded in a way that helps YOUR brain.

If you look at your account online, you should see March 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016. So the 2015 points are already in your account and could be borrowed for a stay in your 2014 use year (3/1/14 to 2/28/15).

Oh wow! Yes, I was thinking I couldn't make a ressie on my 2015 points until they were actually in my 'account' by being the current year or in my acct to be borrowed. I didn't know about the dates part. That makes much more sense!

thanks! You understood me on the points availability question. I know my points come back every year until our contract date is up. By then I'll probably have handed it over to my kids or grandkids! I was saying that if I could only make a reservation now with my 2014 points that I'd have to hope and pray that the dates I was missing while waiting for the 2015 points were available when I went to make the ressie.

Now that I understand that I can do this I only have to wait until April 8 to get this going! Yay!!

Here is what made it easy for me. Decide when you will travel and determine which UY that the trip will take place. Once you know that, it can be paid for with banked points from the UY prior to travel, the UY of travel and with borrowed points from the UY after travel.

When you call to make the reservation doesn't matter, only when the trip will take place. As long as your points are valid for the travel dates, MS will pull them to book the reservation as needed.
