(this is my first post) we were thinking about going may 2-6 and i noticed mothers day is may 9th....is this a busy time at disney because i have heard its crowded the week before and after a holiday? i have a 4 and 1 year and i dont want to make it any more complicated. thx

We were at Disney May 2-12 of this year and I didn't think it was too bad. There were lines but nothing crazy. Most of the rides had a minimal wait and for the rides with longer lines we used a FastPass to avoid waiting. I thought it was a great time to go.

We went during Mother's Day weekend in 2008. The lines were about normal for May, nothing huge. I have heard to avoid the parks, especially Epcot, on Mother's Day itself, as they sometimes have a very popular special event brunch held there. We used that Sunday to tour some resorts and DTD, and it was just fine. May is such a pretty time of year with the F&G Festival. Have fun!

Mother's Day isn't a day-off/school-break holiday, so I don't think the usual holiday thinking would apply. It is more crowded during and around school breaks, even short ones like Labor or Memorial Day, because many families will take advantage of even a short break to minimize missed school time for an off-season trip. But since Mother's Day doesn't come with time off for parents or students, I don't think it has much effect. Without the brunch (which wasn't offered last year), I'm not sure even Mother's Day itself is significantly different from any other non-holiday spring weekend.

:cloud9:Hi! Welcome aboard! Okay we went to Disney World Magic Kingdom for the first time on Mothers Day 2009. It was not crowded at all. The longest wait time was 20 minutes. It was great. The least wait time was 10 minutes. Have a great time and oh and the weather was great we wore shorts and capris the whole time around 85-90 degrees. It only rained 2 times for about a 1/2 to 1 hour each time. Have a Fantasmic time.:wizard:

We've gone for Mother's Day several times; this year we're planning on heading down the weekend before due to some work conflicts for my DH, but we've found it to be a good time to go. The crowds aren't too bad; our big complaint from last year was that central Florida had record high temps, so it was really, really hot. We've gone this time before our DS was born, and with him and he seems to enjoy it more each time we go.
The baby care centers in the parks are great for the little ones too.
Welcome to the boards!

:)I have a question for u and sorry if i interupted this thread but does anyone know when the brazillian tour groups come to disney we are planning a trip but would like to avoid this if we can.. thanks for any and all help here..

Our first family trip was during the first week of May - perfect time of the year to go! Crowds are low and the weather is beautiful.

My understanding is that they are there from around the 2nd week of July until the first week of August. I believe there are also tour groups in January.

We were there 2 years ago the last week of July - never again!!! Too many groups, and they were everywhere!!!

Last year we went the second week of August and there were hardly any groups.

If you're planning a summer trip, I would suggest June or mid-late August to avoid the tour groups.

We traveled that week last year and it was great. The crowds weren't too bad. Our last day there was Mothers Day and I honestly didn't find it all that bad. The weekends are always much more busy. We also try to schedule our days to avoid the extra hours crowds.

We haven't been before, but we're taking our first trip in May and will be there on Mother's Day. Thanks for letting me know what to typically expect. Let's just hope for nice weather! I can do crowds, I just don't want to have a total rained out trip!
