The tribute will be held Th Aug 18 at 6 PM in the park. I was so excited when I got the invitation! But I have little money so I need to stay somewhere cheap. I've booked the Anaheim Plaza Hotel. I don't need anything fancy or loaded with amenities, just a nice clean motel in easy walking distance. Is this a good choice? I can't afford anything in the resort right now, even with my AP, and the event did not include any hotel discounts.

Hojo and FFI were $129 and up. Anaheim Plaza was $58.50. That makes me a tad nervous, though! I am flying down and don't have a car.

The AP is a fine choice. :thumbsup2

It's an older hotel (read: stuck-in-the-80s room decor & not the most comfy of beds), but the rooms are large and clean. IIRC, it was about a 10 minute walk from hotel to Park turnstiles...about the same as Hojo's. The pool is huge (and heated), and there's also a hot tub. Never had any problems feeling unsafe there, either, unlike some other places nearby.

If you can't get into any of the above posted hotels check out the Super 8 on Katella. It's an older place, but it's a short walk to the parks and very clean.

They sent out invitaions to this? How do you think you qualified for one? The Sorcerers will be going to this also. I wonder why Premier ticket holders weren't invited also.

Who are the Sorcerers?

I was invited because I'm a family friend.

I am guessing it is a reference to the special Sorcerors package for the D23 Expo. :confused3

Oh! Is that a very large group? I'm wondering how early I need to arrive for the 4:30 check-in so that I'm near the front :goodvibes

Yes, our experience starts on Thursday at noon and then they will bus us over for the presentation. Cannot wait! sounds just wonderful...so much great history.

There are 50 Sorcerers..(or so..rumor is they sold quite a few more tickets that the 'strictly limited' 50) :) You will get there before us..I don't think we go until 5:00 or so.... (I already packed my schedule..leaving tomorrow..whoop!)

Oooh, I hope you report back after the event! I would love to hear about it.

And I wanted to let you know that I have stayed at the AP, and it is fine. Nothing fancy, but the rooms are large and clean, and the walking distance is pretty equal to that of the Hojos.

Wow! Wish I could be part of that :wizard:. Someone told me that the Sorcerers' invitations said the event would be at the Golden Horseshoe...is that what yours says? Mine said it would be at the Festival Arena in Frontierland. I had really hoped for GH, which seemed the most appropriate place to hold a tribute to Wally and Betty!

Thanks, Tina! I will try to get pics and will report back, I promise!

Laurence (Wally's son) invited me to a tribute/dedication at the Disney Family Museum in SF last month. Unfortunately, I couldn't go! He presented some of Wally's famous accessories to Diane Disney to keep in the museum. He would have introduced me but I wasn't able to be there :sad1:.

I think they may have read it wrong..we are also at the Festival Arena (I'm a little fuzzy on where that actually is at the park). It mentioned the GH in reference to Wally Boag and Betty Taylor..about their show there, but the event is at the Festival Arena..I'm guessing the configuration at the GH with all the tables and such wouldn't fit as many people as planned, plus wouldn't having it at the GH mess with the regular schedule there?

Yes, that's what I figured, too. From what I understand, the Festival Arena is somewhere behind Thunder Ranch or in that vicinity, anyway. I was told by Events people that we'd check in at GCH, be given wrist bands and a ticket and then escorted over. I'm thinking they must have to do that in groups which is probably why check-in is staggered.

When I first saw the invitation I thought it was at Golden Horseshoe, too. It wasn't until I read it more closely that I realized it wasn't. The way 'Golden Horseshoe' is written does give you the initial impression that it figures into the tribute.

That's what I would guess, too. It's probably the theater where they used to do Hunchback of Notre Dame. If so, I believe that access is through Thunder Ranch.

Have fun! I'm so jealous.

Thanks, Bob!! Now if I could only figure out what to wear...I haven't a clue!!

It is. I was back there a couple years ago for an awards ceremony.
