....... making the waiting-rooms and the dental surgeries customer friendly must be difficult and costly, but does your dental surgery have any novel way of keeping their clients amused? I think that no matter what they do, people will still sit there wishing they were somewhere else and dreading their turn.

My son remarked that he'd love a flat screen TV inserted into the ceiling above the dentist's chair LOL! He doesn't ask for much  !!( Instead, there is a picture of the Mona Lisa - the type you have to really stare at before you see it).

The waiting-room has a TV with the sound turned down, 2 year old magazines, a kiddies corner and a glass cabinet stocked with healthy food for your teeth ( no, not real!!)

(Note to the dentist(s) we have on our boards: I'm not complaining - you people do a wonderful job :) )

ours has lego which is marvellous as it keeps Katie occupied. Other than that it's the standard 2 year old magazines!

Our drs surgery used to have an gas fire with no fireguard - I moved surgery's after I had Katie - it never occured to be before I had her, but after she was walking I could never relax in there.

Oh god I hate the toys you see in Dentists/Docs/Hospitals - they're sooooo manky!!

Our dentist has one of those REALLY old Fisher Price record players, gosh they must be about 25 yrs old as I remember them from when I was a kid!!! 3 year old Readers Digest and even older kids story books.

Luckily, our dentist has young kids, so the rooms are filled with cast off toys and books.

My main gripe is that it's filled with womans magazines like Cosmopolitan with subjects that I can't post here.

Why oh why is there nothing for men to read?

Yes but Bonzo my dear every man could learn alot from reading some of the articals in Cosmo!!!!

LOL I must have a trendy Dentist as he has FHM in the waiting room, along with Hello, OK, Now and all the glossy mags. They are all current issues too. He has the daily newspapers delivered too. His receptionist has candles burning (the essence ones) and this is a nice calming effect, also background music, you know the type that you can buy in Garden Centres etc. Dolphins and Pan Pipes sort of stuff :)

He has a tv suspended on the ceiling in the patients room and sometimes the sound is up if it is an interesting programme, otherwise it's back to the Dolphins!

It's all decorated in pale blue's and lilacs with a dash of white here and there, so it really is very calming. I think they have put a lot of thought into their Surgery and we have been patients of his for 25 years now. When we moved, we carried on going to him, then he moved nearer to where we live now - so we stayed with him again. We are seriously tempted to stay with him even though we are moving miles away now - but I dont know if we would be able to :(

Will find out next month when I next go

:)

The dentist that I and my DS (Hamish) go to overlooks Edinburgh Castle and Princes St Gardens which is a fantastic view. They are also very efficient so we never have to wait more than a few minutes. Their waiting room is large and very sunny as it has such huge windows. they don't have any kiddies toys - but they aren't needed with that view and the staff are all so friendly.
There is plenty to keep your mind off the dentistry bit.
Hamish actually loves going to the dentist as we make a big trip of it - going on the bus (we usually drive everywhere) and then after the dentist we go to the Gardens where there is a kiddies park, a carousel and also a viewing platform for trains that go in and out of the station - the train driver love to wave!

The dentist we go to is very good with Hamish and have obviously had some training in how to look after very young children. My hope is that Hamish will therefore never have any fear of the dentist.

Jackie :D

Wow Jackie :) ....... how nice to have a surgery where you can look out on a lovely view like that! A lot of surgeries have chairs facing away from the windows (which normally have net curtains anyway), and into the room.

We were actually at the dentist yesterday for our 6 monthly family check up. My dentist has recently gone private which isn't ideal but I have to stay with him as he is the best dentist I have ever had, he is so calm and makes you feel so secure, I couldn't give him up!

He actually has a TV in his ceiling Shirley, so you can watch something whilst he is drilling away! Personally, I think I prefer the mobile he used to have hanging there, but that's just me!

I hope I can stay with him forever as I really trust him. After a previous dentist stuck a needle in my lip, I'm taking no chances!
