We did this several times on our last two trips and really enjoyed the chance both to eat at new places and the excuse to explore a resort. It makes a nice way to take a slightly more extended mid-day break without going back to your own room (i.e. no little kids that needed a nap).
It also worked really well one day when we wanted to hit a few headliners at RD but spend the afternoon at a water park. It's a heck of a lot easier to get to a water park from a resort than from one of the theme parks. So I packed our swim stuff, took it to the MK and stuffed it in a locker there before RD, and we played at MK for about 2 hours. Retrieved the bag from the locker and took the monorail to the Poly for lunch at Capt Cooks. From there, took a bus direct to Typhoon Lagoon.
In general I think the resort CS locations have better food and MUCH more selection than most CS locations in the parks (and WAY WAY WAY better than the CS locations in the water parks.....). And even more choices for dinner.
The resort CS locations we most enjoyed were Capt Cook at the Poly, Contempo Cafe at CR, and Pepper Market at CSR. Would very much like to get to POR one night for the pasta option, too. And I have a distinct desire to try that tie-die cheesecake at Pop. Oh, well, next time..............
