I noticed in a recent thread the idea of going to resorts for Counter Service meals. I do think this is a great idea if you want to try something new or check out a resort.

I would love your ideas of excellent resort Counter Services. We have stayed at AKL, BC, and CS. So I know about those. Thanks in advance for sharing your thougts!

We've never been but I've heard great things about Capt Cook's at the Poly. They serve Dole Whips and Tonga Toast, which everyone raves about, as well as other great "non-conventional" CS choices.

I also like Everything Pop at Pop Century for their "TV dinners" and tye-dye cheesecake.

My family liked the make-it-yourself pasta and salad options over at Port Orleans Riverside.

The Pepper Market at Coronado Springs has a great food court with lots of choices. Port Royale at Caribbean Beach is good too!

Captain cooks at the Poly was great.

I had an adult grilled cheese and DH aloha pulled pork sandwich.

Captain Cook's at the Poly was good.

And as crazy as this sounds, the BEST resort counter service food we ever had was at POP-and we've stayed at many resorts- lol

I'm at a point now where I'd almost rather go to some of the resorts for CS meals than battling some of the TS restaurants.

Some of our favorites are:
Pop food court
Captain Cook's at the Polynesian
Contempo Cafe at the Contemporary
PORiverside, already mentioned, the make your own pasta is EXCELLENT!
(also make your own salads, and carving board selections)

Pop Counter Service Pix, Cheesesteak wrap and Shrimp Lo Mein...YuMmY!

We always make a special trip to the Poly for a toasted cheese sandwich.
And we enjoy going to the AKL counter service, The Mara, for the chicken pita.

Another vote for POR food court. The pasta is amazing! I also love the make your own yogurt parfait for breakfast.

Here's some pix from POR food court, can't remember details sorry (although I remember the brownie thing was aMaZiNg) LOL

We love Captain Cook's at the Poly. My favorite is the pulled pork sandwich with house-made chips and a Dole Whip for dessert. My DH also liked the pork sandwich but he has also tried the grilled cheese sandwich, noodle bowl, and one of the flatbreads. He said they were all great.

We also like the Smith stack sandwich with house-made chips at Artist's Palette at SSR.

Capt Cook and Roaring Forks both are really good. I don't know that I would want to waste that much time going to a resort just for a quick service meal, unless you planned on taking the day off from the park, and just wanted to check out a new resort. I just wish they would get rid of the yucky buns at the counter service restaurants in the parks, they really stink!!!!!!!!!!!! Then the burgers would be so much better and we wouldn't have to find other places to eat.

We did this several times on our last two trips and really enjoyed the chance both to eat at new places and the excuse to explore a resort. It makes a nice way to take a slightly more extended mid-day break without going back to your own room (i.e. no little kids that needed a nap).

It also worked really well one day when we wanted to hit a few headliners at RD but spend the afternoon at a water park. It's a heck of a lot easier to get to a water park from a resort than from one of the theme parks. So I packed our swim stuff, took it to the MK and stuffed it in a locker there before RD, and we played at MK for about 2 hours. Retrieved the bag from the locker and took the monorail to the Poly for lunch at Capt Cooks. From there, took a bus direct to Typhoon Lagoon.

In general I think the resort CS locations have better food and MUCH more selection than most CS locations in the parks (and WAY WAY WAY better than the CS locations in the water parks.....). And even more choices for dinner.

The resort CS locations we most enjoyed were Capt Cook at the Poly, Contempo Cafe at CR, and Pepper Market at CSR. Would very much like to get to POR one night for the pasta option, too. And I have a distinct desire to try that tie-die cheesecake at Pop. Oh, well, next time..............
