going to por in june- should i try for an upgrade?

hi everyone! i'm going to wdw june 11-16. my old college roommate and i are meeting in wdw to celebrate our birthdays. we chose por. i love por and she is excited about staying there. last year we stayed at cbr and really liked the resort, but had a horrible experience. (the dance competition was that week and a team was put right next to us) now i'm concerned about por and the refurbishment that is going on. if we have another bad experience, i wont be able to convince her to meet me in wdw anymore. i'll also be upset because this trip is what has been keeping me sane and my friend feels the same way. i'm wondering if i should try and see if i can get an upgrade to wl. i have always wanted to stay there, but have never had the money to. i also have a friend that works there and it would be nice to see him. should i see about an upgrade? i would hate to change my ressies if the refurbishment at por is not too bad. however, at the same time i don't want to have another bad experience and wish that i had switched. any suggestions? thanks!

We will be @ POR for the 1st time June 6th-9th then AKL 9th-15th. We orginally planned our whole stay to be @ POR but switched with all the renovation rumors. I've heard some have been offered upgrades already. I'm guessing that we haven't because it's a short stay for us.
I'm not going to worry about it for now, maybe next week or the week after that. The closer it gets the more crazier I get about things.
If your having concerns call the relocation # thats posted under the POR/FQ closing section, this is the way some have gotten their upgrades, hopefully you can get one too.

Do you mean one of the deeply discounted upsells they are offering to POR people they have to relocate? I don't think you'll be able to just call and ask for that because they don't have to relocate everyone like they did with PO-FQ. I think your only chance for a discounted upsell would be if they called you and told you they needed to relocate you. ~~

The only people being offered the upgrade are those staying at POFQ. There are no upgrade offers for POR as they are not displacing anyone with current reservations there.

I just read over on another Disney Message board that 2 different families have been called by the relocation team, both were booked at POR for the end of June, they both were offered upgrades. ~~

We were switched from Riverside to Wl/akl this past May 4-7th.
But they did call us we did nto call them.

Yes they are closing for "rehab" some of the hotel and food court.

We were scheduled for POR for June 10-17. We received a call 2 weeks ago. We are moving to CBR. Now we really like CBR and have stayed there before. No problems. We are happy! The only thing I have to say is that we were not offered much for upgrades. They said everything was FULL! I was given three choices:

1. move to CBR
2. move to Grand Floridian for another $1000.00
3. move to Fort Wilderness Cabins for another I can't remember

Now I am not complaining, I just hear what everyone else is being offered. ex: AKL, WL, BC and YC. And I would gladly pay another $35.00 a night what everyone else is being offered if there was something offered. I can't believe everything is full.
Just my thoughts!!!

BTW - we were booked in AB of POR - Riverside. Hope this helps someone else!

We are a family of five, so I don't think they could move us to another moderate. I'm concerned about things being closed at the resort or being moved at the last minute as we are making our plans based on where we are staying.

I see where some people have stayed at POR with the food court not completely open. It seems like Disney would either have to close the resort or offer all the amenities of the resort. I have ressies for Nov. but this makes me think twice about going.

I think that Disney should at the very least contact the guests staying there and let them know what is going on.

We will be @ POR June 6th-9th, & AKL 9th-15th. We decided to split our stay based on renovation. We had a bad experience once @ the CR when they were going thru renovations a couple of years ago. I also e-mail disney direct regarding some concerns we had and received a generic form e-mail back.
We have not gotten a call and I requested a building that supposedly has been closed ( #27). The was I see it is that we are only there for 3 nights and if things our that bad (like they were @ CR), I'll speak to who ever is in charge & when we get home I'll write a "nice" letter.

I just requested bldg. 27 at POR for my November trip. They did not mention that it was closed. Do you know for how long?
