Going to NYC for a day from Orlando

We are doing a day trip to new York from Orlando during our October holiday, flying MCO - EWR rtn with united airlines, we find getting the train from EWR into the city very simple!

Though this year we aren't going into manhattan, heading to Giants Stadium at New Meadowlands to Watch NFL Browns @ Giants. Go Giants!

The last couple of trips we have started in NY, it breaks the journey up and the cost increase is the hotel in ny and the transfer, but it is really worth it.

Thanks for sharing. Have you made this journey before then? If so, I'd love to know what you got up to during your short time in Manhattan. I agree with your comment about the train, by the way- it's so simple and I have no idea why more tourists don't take advantage of the great public transport options!

Do you usually stay at the same hotel? We've always stayed at The New York Palace in Midtown but in April we did a split stay and tried out the Andaz Wall Street, which was just awesome. :thumbsup2

I really would love to go back to NYC but with a new baby I can't see it for a good few years :(

I miss thy courtyard at the Palace :(

Yeah we did it back in 2010, we arrived at EWR at 9:15am took the air train to the main Newark station then another train for 20 minutes which takes you to Penn station ( under Madison square garden ) then it's 2 stops on subway to times square!

We spent most of our morning in Chinatown ( an area we really like) in the afternoon we did a little shopping, went to the top of the rock, took the obligatory walk into and round times square, then had dinner at our fav restaurant "Churrascaria Plataforma" which is similar to a "Texas de brazil" after a short walk back to times square and final shop in Aeropostale, it was back on the subway to Penn Station then train to Newark for our 9 pm flight home which got back to MCO at 11:45 ish, long day but well worth it we thought!

You'll be back at the Palace before you know it, along with little Joseph. :)

It sounds like you had a great day! How many hours in total did you have in Manhattan? We took the train from Newark to Penn in April and we found the whole process to be really straightforward (although it was totally crazy at Penn- I had no idea it was so huge!).

We arrived in centralmanhattan about 10:15 and left about 19:15 so I'd say 9 hours give or take a few minutes, penn station is a Big place we were also surprised the first time we travelled through it!

The hotels stump us sometimes because there are 5 of us. In 2009 we stayed on Lexington Avenue at the Affinia Shelburne, had a really nice 2 room suite.

This time we are staying at the Eastgate Towers (another Affinia group hotel) on East 39th Street, right near the United Nations. We have had to book this as our eldest daughters friend is coming so we needed a 6 person room. Plus, it has a full kitchen so we can sort breakfast and snacks ourselves to save a couple of quid (which is a blessing cause I have to prostitue myself to pay for the whole hols, and it aint a pretty sight ha ha )
