The children dd 16 dd 7 have voted to visit Maine in early July and do disney in OCt :thumbsup2 I was really starting to worry that they would not want to go back this year and opt to head further south to Tampa ....:scared:

soo right now I have 2 places in mind.. Ogunquit for a few nights then up to Acadia for a few more. We have ressies at medowmere resort. picked by family fun magazine in 05 :thumbsup2 as for Acadia still searching..

any one out there w suggestions is greatly appreciated.. the oldest dd 16 was 6 when we last ventured up to Acadia and camped up in Bar Harbor in mid Sept. She has vivid memories of lobsters and hiking the park and daddy getting  on the whale watching trip :rolleyes1 funny how kids recall those memories

hope I posted this in the right section..
thanks again for your help

We stay at the Bar Harbor Grand when we got to Mt. Desert (pronounced DESSERT....) Island. You can walk to the restaurants and shops- very convenient.

We stay at a family cottage in York, just south of Ogunguit. My girls love the beach and actually go in the water...........I, on the other hand, barely let my toes get wet!! Alot of my family members stay up at York so we always find someone to play with at the beach.

the girls love to shop in the quaint shops downtown and get taffy at the Goldenrod and of course, ice cream!! My oldest loves to shop in Kittery at the outlets!!

Too funny we stay just a few hotels down for the Meadomere at Outdoor World! I have alway wanted to stay there (Meadowmere) but cannot justify it when we have a huge Rv. We have however stayed up at thos hotel in Bar harbor when out Rv was in storage and it was Fabulous!

Good Luck!

We are going in June! Hoping for good weather. Staying at a cottage in Bar Harbor.

My brother used to own a B&B on Shore Rd. in Ogunquit, called the Seafair Inn. I don't know if it's still a B&B, but it was very nice when he had it. I'd invade, and hang out at all the local gay bars there, and walk the Marginal Way to Perkins Cove.

Thanks everyone for the ideas :)

looks like the Bar Harbor area will be our 2nd stop over up the coast.

I forgot to mention that we are a party of 10. Family from PA will be meeting us so we are trying to find a housefor the 2nd part of our stay. Most of the cottages are too small.. IT's going to be wierd with out the travel trailer too....We are the campers and they are not.. Dh has been grumbling ever since.. :rolleyes1 I'm sure once he has had a few lobsters and one lobster roll to himself it will be all good.. oh and the grumbling about missing the dining plan again.. this summer:confused3 Disney sure has us spoiled with this.. (we did this on our Christmas trip and had awesome food every day)

We do have passports so I'm tryn to get DH to wander up into Canada, of course the cousins do not, but we could go on the day they go whale watching.

UrsulasShadow.. I will see if the B&B is still there.. can't wait to see the cove and marginal way.. Im sure it's just as breathtaking as hiking in Acadia Ntl park was.

Mermaid02 let me know if it's ok to Pm you?

thanks again..

thanks again!

Acadia is as beautiful as ever, can't wait to get there this summer:cloud9: Have a great trip.:beach:

A good place to eat is The Steak House right on Rte 1 south up a ways from the Meadowmere. VERY good food, and not just the steaks. I am a seafood eater and it is delicious. Prepare for a wait though, the only time there isn't a wait is if you get there right at 4 which is when they open. I am pretty sure it is acually in Wells which I believe is the next town.

I second Marginal way at Perkins Cove and also if you go to York which I highly recommend, be sure and go to Short Sands for a little shopping, a little nibbling, a zoo, an amusement park, a big arcade, a playground, the beach, etc. It is much better than Long sands in my opinion.

Have fun, I have been going there for 21 years now. I love it there, second to DisneyWorld of course.

If you make it to the Portland area, make sure you go here:

Absolutely wonderful place for lobster right on the ocean. It was absolutely beautiful and a lot of fun! VERY casual. I went with a friend on our last trip there and we had a blast. I look forward to going back - Maine is a beautiful state!

I am from MDI (Mount Desert Island), and now live about 2hrs away, we go there once a month for either a long weekend, or a day trip or two, and we go for a week in the summer, and a looong weekend just dh and I in the fall. When it is open (as most hotels are seasonal) we stay in the Bar Harbor Inn, breathtaking views of the bay. During the off season we just pick and choose from diff B&B's that are open for our weekends.
All of Maine is beautiful, but MDI is the only place that dh and I feel we have found utopia.
Your best bet would be to go to the Bar Harbor chamber of commerece website and from there it will have listings for area lodgings options. There are a lot of homes to rent in the area. It will also give you plenty of options for other interests in the area as well.

Gorge's Grant is a real nice place to stay in Ogunquit! We like that they have an on-site restaurant that serves breakfast so you don't have to go out looking for a place like everyone else up there. Not sure if they still have it, but the hotel is right on the trolley route and you can take it to the beach.

Shoot, what's that walk called at Ogunquit where you walk near the ocean? That's always fun to do. Lobster is real good up there! :thumbsup2

We also went to Fun Town Splash Town - nothing at all like WDW, but our kids had fun.

Maine is a real nice place to visit. But be warned that the ocean can be VERY cold!!!

We are there for a week in the beginning of July too! For the past 10 years or so we've stayed in York on Short Sands. LOVE IT there!! So much fun. This year we are going to Old Orchard Beach. I have reservations at The Edgewater which seems very nice. Does anyone know about this place??? We will go to Fun Town/Spashtown with our DD's.

Can't wait!!

Of course you can PM me. I will look into a few things and see if I can find some websites for you. We always get Lobster at Thurston's Lobster Pound in Bernard (the quiet side of the island) their lobster is to die for!!

We like to stay right in Bar Harbor so we can walk to Geddy's and the movie theater..... it's a great town!!

thanks for the links.. our vacation just got easier:goodvibes ... the cousins are going to stay in Maine for 3 days and then head over to Mystic Seaport..
which means we can meander our way up the coast or head into the Central Part of the state. My best friend from NY is going to meet us and we will venture out as a party of 6 :) she is thinking about bringing her pop up w slides.. so we can camp.. DH is very excited.. I told her to make up her mind asap since hotels fill up real quick, as Im sure so do campgrounds..

The edegwater was one of my choices.. but we could not get the rooms right next to each other. My aunt is the picky one, they ONLY stay at the Poly at Disney and boy were they surprised how nice the Contemporary was and the cabins and wilderness lodge and POFQ....:rolleyes1, don't get me wrong the poly is beautiful... we just like to try diff places.. I hope to stay at each resort one day..any way lost track...

did you look on tripadvisor for some reviews? I searched till my eyes were glazed.. and d:wizard: hey ding dong.. try the disboards :thumbsup2

hope you have a great time in Maine too..
