Is the Grand Californian the only other place in CA to stay on points? Also, do DVC members or AP holders get discount on park tix?

VGC is the only DVC resort in DL. If you have unrestricted points, you can use them on the hotel side of GH as well as the PP and DLH to make reservations there.

There is a DVC member discount for an AP, but not for any other tickets as far as I know.

We are DVC & Southern Cali locals and when we got our AP's we could use either discount on AP's but the amount was the same. Something like $25 off per AP. NO discounts on any hopper by being DVC but sometimes only for being So Cal resident!
I hear of a small discount for being AAA member or buying 3 or 4 day Hoppers from Costco which we did a few years back but that's all I know!

Ok, break it down please. I have no idea what all that means or the abbreviations!

I will keep the Costco in mind. I grew up in Newport Beach and have been dying to take the kids out there. I went by myself this year to see a friend. It's amazing after all this time, it still felt like home.

We would like to do a few Disney days, then off to Newport for beach, whale watching, lots of In n Out! I never did a lot up north, so we might try that too! Where do you live?

We thought about cruising on DCL, but it was crazy expensive!

Stab at translation ...

The Villas at Grand California (VGC) is the only actual "Disney Vacation Club" (DVC) property at Disneyland Resort (DL/DLR). If your DVC points are either Developer points or resale points grandfathered prior to the developer/resale distinction, then ... you might also consider booking the following hotel options using those unrestricted points: the Grand Californian Hotel (stress HOTEL vs villas), Paradise Pier Hotel (PP), and/or Disneyland Hotel (DLH).

DVC offers a $20 (?) discount off select Disneyland Annual Passes (AP) but no discount on other ticket types (single day/single park, hopper, multi-day, etc).

Hope that helps!

There are RCI exchange location in southern California - but I'm not sure how close any of them are to the Disneyland Resort.

The Disneyland Resort isn't at all like the WDW Resort in terms of size, touring times, or scale.

4 days at the Disneyland Resort would allow you to see and do just about everything there is to see and do.... in terms of doing it and checking it off your list.

So while 7 days at the WDW Resort pass quickly - you can easily stay NEAR Anaheim...while not staying IN Anaheim.

BUT, traffic near Anaheim is far worse than Orlando 7 out of 7 days a week.

So while it is POSSIBLE to stay near the coast if an RCI exchange is possible - know that it will take you a while to get to and from.

True. I believe there are 3 or 4 properties very close to Disneyland Resort on the approved DVC/RCI exchange list. Two of these are Dolphin's Cove and the Worldmark Anaheim. We use both quite frequently and walk from either to Disneyland Resort (theme parks, shopping, dining, hotels).
