We are visiting WDW as first time parents with our 6 month old son. Does anybody know of how to access baby related equipment at BCV ( if there are such things). We have been DVCers since 1998 and have made many trips sans baby. I seem to use so much stuff at home I was just wondering if anyone had any tips about how to manuever a first time stay with a baby. Ben has been home with us only 9 weeks from Seoul, South Korea and we can't wait to show him the World! We are bringing our own carseat, (we always rent a car) and our own stroller. Our little fellow is about 22lbs so hoofing it from place to place would not be practicle without it. We'll be spending my first Mother's Day at WDW!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :smooth:

Thanks for your help,
Kathy

I think you can get most of what you will need there. Just call and ask what is available and have it reserved for you. Congrats on the new baby and I know you will have many memories to share with him when he gets older.

I would think that you probably will feed him in the car seat, but if you would like a high chair, you can get one in your room for the duration of your trip. The room will also have apack and play in it already. Do bring your own bottles and I would bring baby spoons if he is eating solids. I would recommend the disposable bibs, just to cut down on the wash. Also if you plan to do laundry while you are there I would bring your own detergent so there is no reaction to the laundry detergent. Don't forget to bring his own blanket and animals if that is what he is used to. Remember that you will be sleeping in a different place and you want his sleep area to be a "homey" as possible to get a good sleep. Bring diapers, they are cheaper than buying them in the World and as swimming diapers. Have a great time;)

Happy 1st Mother's Day, what a great place to be to enjoy it!

Congratulations! It's gonna be a "Whole New World"! ;) We have 3 kids, and all of them visited WDW before their first birthday. We have learned to be a little more efficient with each one (by necessity as much as anything else!). Our approach was to take the essentials:
Just enough diapers (based on average daily use, plus a couple of extras)
Wipes (good for cleaning just about anything!)
Diaper cream
Changing mat
Enough bottles for one day (so you are only washing them once a day)
Baby food based on the number of meals needed (biter biscuits, pears, carrots etc)
Thermometer, Orajel, Tylenol, Pediacare, etc "just in case"
A couple of favorite toys
Baby blanket
Clothes

Apart from the clothes, we used to be able to get the stuff to fit nicely into a normal diaper bag.

The good news is that you can get almost anything you may have forgotten in the hotel and at the baby stations in the parks (these places can be your favorite attractions when you have a tired baby!).

Hope this helps, and that you have a great time!
Mike

What type of "equipment" are you looking for? Since you're bringing his car seat (if it's the infant carrier type) I'd plan on feeding him in that car seat, it's much easier with a child that age, since they usually aren't sitting up enough to use the highchairs Disney provides. I'd also recommend the disposable bibs, MUCH more convient!!! Also, bring any toys, blankies, etc he is attached to it will help being away from home. There will be a pack-n-play proviced in the room with a tight fitting sheet, so no need to worry about that. I'd bring everything possible that you need, spoons, bowls, bottles, etc. Plan on stopping at the grocery store on your way in from the airport to pick up baby food, diapers, wipes, etc. The less you'll have to lug with you. If you're worried and want more "like home" stuff, go to www.abbf.com They rent baby equipment all sorts of stuff, and will deliver and pick up at WDW resorts. Congratulations on the adoption of you son, it truly is a blessing!!

Congratulations! You'll have a wonderful time & quickly get used to having less baby stuff around.

At 22 pounds he won't still be in the infant carrier. Can he sit up ok in a regular high chair?

I know you didn't ask this, but here are some of my baby tips. :)

What I like to do is stock up on disposable baby things and zip lock bags. Disposable changing pads, disposable bibs, little bags for dirty diapers, etc. Anything in a small or travel size so there's less to carry to the parks.

When going to the parks we took a light backpack with the baby stuff (all packed in zip locs so we breezed through security). Valuables went into fanny packs. I also had a small camera bag. When boarding a bus, one of us took the baby & the backpack while the other other folded the stroller.

For formula we used non-disposable bottles. They worked better for us. I took a big can of the powder & dispensed it into a holder (from babies r us) with 3 sections. Each section is enough for a bottle. We used room temperature bottled water & it worked great! Another easy option is those little packets of foumula powder (might only be enfamil though).

If you have room in your luggage, an inflatable bathtub insert is helpful. It looks like a little boat. Our son loved it!

It's nice to have a baby bjorn front carrier, but you'd have to see if it's manageble with a 22 pounder. It's good for times when you have to leave your stroller but don't want to carry the baby. It's also a place for him to sleep. Again, DS loved being carried in a way that let him look out at the world. :)

Happy planning!

Thanks for the responses everyone. Many heads are better than one when planning for a new event. Your responses also validated bringing a little one to WDW. Many people up here in the North often think that the little ones won't remember so why bring them. Well there's many ways to do Disney. We are so looking forward to the World the baby way. Thanks again!

Komapnisida ( thank you spelled phonetically in Korean)

Kathy;)

Congrats on your little one and have a great time. We would love to see pictures of him with Mickey!!

I would only add one thing... make sure to keep your baby hydrated! It sounds obvious, but my daughter got very dehydrated once in MGM when she slept through a drink break. She woke up in the stroller very sluggish looking, and we took her to first aid and her temp was 104. (We are both health care providers, and we were surprised how quickly it happened!)We grown ups (and older kids) carry water in our hands, but babies need to have fluids offered to them often, sometimes even during a nap:rolleyes:

Congratulations, and have a wonderful first Mother's Day!!!

Renee

I thought I read you were going to the BCV'S for 6 months....
I thought WOW................someone bought a lot of points !!!!!

lolol

Wow Disny4ever that was one of the best laughs I had all day. WOuldn't that be something to stay for 6 months! AND we never use points for the Fri/Sat nights have always pd cash around the world. I wonder what the dues would be for a 6 month stay.

ALso Renee you make a good point about hydration. I'll certainly work on that.

Thanks again for your input everyone. I'm so excited about this trip!

Congratulations on your new son! Just a reminder to bring sun block and to get him a hat. That sun can be brutal on a little baby!

Congratulations :) We're off in 17 days with our 4 1/2 month old son so it's been really interesting reading this thread.

I can't really add much to what's been said, but as we're travelling from the UK I'm planning on using Netgrocer to deliver all our nappies (diapers ;)) wipes, babyfood, disposable bibs etc. so we don't have to carry more than necessary.

I don't know if you have them in the US, but we have Steriliser bottles, which you pop a little water in and just put them in the microwave for a minute each to sterilise, so that makes the sterilising a lot easier.

Good luck, have a wonderful time, I'm not sure when mothers' day is in the US but maybe we'll bump into you in a babycare centre.

First off congratulations on the baby! Not sure if your staying in a one bedroom or a studio, but just wanted to tell you if you are in a one bedroom, the pack and play is in the trunk that is used for a table in front of the couch. If your in a studio, its in the closet.

I like how you spelled Thank you in Korean phonetically. I have seen it done this way Kam-ap-ni-sa-dah.

I've got the sunblock, a few hats and a couple of stylin' swimtrunks for the baby. We did pack 'n play practice the last few times we went to Disney so that we know how it would fit in a studio and one BR. We're staying in a studio this time and a 2BR in August. Terry, you reminded me of our practice run through last year. Made me smile. It was a good way to visualize the upcoming adoption. Now we will have our wiggly, smiley guy with us. We are in training at home for pack 'n play exposure. We'll hope for the best.

Thanks again!
Kathy

LOL, I was going to tell them the same thing. Our last trip in March our DD was almost 2. We had a stuido for Fri and Sat and then moved into a 1 bedroom for the rest of the trip. That night we couldn't find the pack and play, looked all over the place and had to call housekeeping to have them tell me that!

When our DD was 8 months old we thought we would just buy some new toys down there for her to play with, but we did not find lot of toys for really young kids, so be sure to bring some with you. You will be much more comfortable at DVC then a normal resort, more room for the baby to sit on the floor and SAB is wonderful for young kids as long as they are very closely supervised.

Your little guy most of been well feed before he came to your home, my DD is 2 years old and only reached 22 pounds last week!

As my youngest is now 18, I really don't have any baby tips for you. I just wanted to say "Congratulations!" Your first Mother's Day will be even more magical since you get to spend it at WDW! Have lots and lots of fun and make extra special memories with your new little one!!!! Believe me, they grow up so fast!

Great info guys. Our baby is due July 11 and we already have ressies for Food and Wine, BCV, and Thanksgiving, VWL, so she'll be less than 4 months her first trip, unless you count our BCV trip this June with a 36 week pregnant DW...

BTW, do they have nipples that fit on the wine bottles for Food and Wine festival...:D
