Going solo at Disney article

Great article and hits close to home. After two solo trips under my belt, I took my next trip with my DS and DIL. I've been going with DS since he was 3, he is 35 now. My first solo trip I didn't know what I was going to do without him, is it even possible? On the last trip with DS and DIL I found myself missing being solo. Lucky for me, they slept in most mornings so I did have some alone time. I'm going on another solo trip in late Sept./early Oct. for food and wine. I did it solo last year and kept thinking the whole time how it was nice but I wished my DS was there. I'm looking forward to the solo trip this year. Stop and smell the roses, or taste the wine as the case may be.

I took my last trip to WDW with my sister. Although I had a great time, when I expressed my desire to go solo for my next trip, I got so many stares & questions from the people that I told (family, friends, co-workers). Unfortunately, I'm not very eloquent at expressing why a solo trip can be good. I should just give them a copy of this article, I guess!

Thanks, I am in the midst of planning my first solo trip this coming December!

Solo=awesome. I am going on my 4th solo trip in January to run the marathon. I love going by myself. I am as introverted as they come but I am a different person there. I am not afraid to get out of my comfort zone and try new things. I just love it. I could write forever about it but I won't bore you all.

LOVELY article!! I've loved my Disney solo trips so much, I've started to consider taking other types of vacations solo, too. I think a week at the beach or a quiet mountain retreat with just me and a pile of books sounds amazing; I never would have considered something like that before I took the plunge and went solo at Disney that first time :)

I've done many other types of vacations solo, but doing Disney solo for the first time in 9 days! :)

Solo beach trips are AMAZING. I can't say enough good things about them. It is the most relaxing thing you will ever do. I spent 5 days at Hilton Head Island just before Christmas celebrating my 35th birthday. I had the best time. I slept in and ordered room service for breakfast and walked on the beach and spent time at the pool and visited the spa and ate wherever I wanted to, whenever I wanted to.

A lot of time I will combine a mostly solo trip with visiting a friend somewhere for a day or 2. Like a good friend got married in Colorado in 2009. So I turned it into a 2 week road trip out west by myself. Was alone the first week, then was with friends for the wedding weekend, visited another friend nearby for a couple of days and then spent a few days getting home, exploring places along the way. Flew to Boston once and stayed with a friend a couple of nights, but explored while she worked, then took a train to NYC and stayed with a friend there and explored while she worked. Went to New Orleans for a college football national championship game, spent a couple of nights with friends, and then 2 nights solo and went to the game solo. Had a blast. All this is just to say...anywhere solo can be a lot of fun!

This WDW trip I will be solo for 6 nights (meeting a couple of DISers for meals and rides here and there), and then visiting a friend near Tampa for 2 nights.

I wasn't too sure about a solo trip to WDW, until I got on these boards and realized how many people do this! Now I have 2 booked!

Your trips sound amazing!!!! I did something like that on my last Disney trip; I went solo, but met up with some friends for an Epcot day and a concert at Hard Rock, then drove up to Jacksonville to stay with another friend for a couple of days. It was wonderful!!

I actually considered doing Hilton Head this summer on my own, but my sister decided she needed a vacation too, so we're going to Jekyll Island as a family. I'm hoping to sneak away and get some alone time while we're there. Maybe steal the car and drive up to Savannah for a day ;)

I can't wait to hear about your Disney solo trip! I really think you're going to love it :)

Sounds like great fun! Meeting up with people but not being forced to spend your entire vacation time in the company of others is definitely ideal. Best of both worlds really.

A few years ago I took a eight day solo trip. At first I thought without my friends what I am going to do with all that time. The week was over so fast and turn out to be one of my top vacations. The next year I returned for another solo week. The next solo trip for late September is already planned. Looking forward to a week of food and wine.

A week of food and wine sounds so great! I've only done f&w once, and it was just for one day. So much fun though!

I liked this article too. This guy sounds a lot like me and he definitely appreciated Disney just as I do. My house isn't decorated in just Disney, but I have a lot of other geeky stuff around. Some people do react negatively toward it, and sometimes to me being solo in the parks (that hasn't happened often). It doesn't bother me too much, but I do wish people were more understanding.
