So I'm extremely confused.

I'm the kind of person who would go out with someone, but that doesn't mean we are Boyfriend/Girlfriend.

That's the way it always used to be at least.

You'd go out with a fellow a few times to get a feel for 'em then you become an "item" or whatever.

Did I miss something!?
Is this how its being done now??

hmm generally around here going out means boyfriend and girlfriend and then hanging out means hooking up.

the terms are interchangable. i think that "dating" is before the boyfriend/girlfriend stage.

i dunno..

i dont date.

if i get a bf, i would date. but i dont date, to "get" a bf.

it that made sense, haha.

Going out = BF/GF. "Mike and Kasey are going out".
Dating = BF/GF. "Mike and Kasey are dating each other".
Hooking up = Mindless sex. "Mike and Kasey totally hooked up this weekend, and I'm starting to think they might like each other".
Hanging out = Chilling with friends. "Mike and Kasey are going to hang out with some other friends on Friday".
Going steady = BF/GF. "Mike and Kasey are going steady".

Going out: Girlfriend & Boyfriend
Hooking-Up(this changes alot from town to town): Making-out/ and or "feeling up"

I know around here, its like if you like a boy, and he likes you but yall aren't dating because you two would like to get to know each other better; it's called 'talking'. If you are boyfriend/girlfriend, its called dating, and like hooking up? uhmm, I guess thats when your not dating but having sex and whatever else.. ahh thats what it means here.

its not necessarily town to town, more age group to age group. middle schoolers hooking up is probably making out. highschool-college hooking up is probably sex.

All I know is i hear too many "Oh..hes my ex boyfriend" and i said "Really because you only went out ONCE!" (espically in middle school...)

I always thought the order went

Go out to then bf/gf

not

going out automatically equals bf/gf

you'd be surprised how many middle schoolers in my town are 'feeling up' and worse. :sad2:

Steady is what my mom's generation used to use. If you've ever watched The Wonder Years they would say "you wanna go steady?"

They mean the same thing.

Srsly?
I wouldn't be. I know tons of girls who've had abortions in the 6th grade. You don't want to know what goes down on the busses either.

i only went out ONCE with my ex boyfriend. and we were together for 3 months.

i dont see dating as a huge deal.

or going out.

yeah most people here go out to get to know each other

but in my eyes, if two peple are going out, theyre together. of course its not the same for everyone else. hehe XD

hooking up means something quite different around here.

Well around here if someone says John and Jane hung out that usually means they hooked up. Hanging out could also mean chilling with friends so it just depends on how it is used.

Hooking up is everything but sex at my school.

oh i know.
its nothing new either. my boyfriend graduated in 2005 from highschool. when he was in 6th grade a girl in his class got pregnant.

hooking up is either sex or making out. but that's with no previous relations together.

i thinking the just going out thing is more with people you're ont used to hanging out with. so you're not familiar with them.
but if say it's two people who have known each other for a very long time.. i don't know how to describe it.
when my ex asked me out, i knew he was asking to be my boyfriend, not to go on a date.

okay so one thing i never go is that if a boy asks you out on a date and you like him and you know he likes you but he DOES NOT ask you to be your girlfriend are you dating..like does a boy or girl have to ask the other person to to be there girlfriend/boyfriend to be considered boyfriend and girlfriend?

I think it depends on the situation.
I just wait to see if the person will request a relationship status this on facebook xD
