Bringing ds with us this weekend to bwv 1 bedroom. He's 17, he usually doesn't come with us. Anyway, can he go online in our villa if we bring our laptop? Also, we don't have a server account to use because our internet connection at home is directly through our cable line. Any suggestions on how we can get him hooked up? (His girlfriend lives in toronto...need I say more?)

At BWV you will be able to hook up by telephone line modem. However, you need a server to dial into and if you don't have one to call you are out of luck. Note, if you have a cable access server, it may have an 800 number you can call and hook in by telphone line; you should check with the server (also you will need an 800 line to avoid huge phone charges by the hotel).

AT&T@Home cable service does have dial up connectivity while on the road. However, I think there might be a small startup fee.

You may want to consider one of the services that gives you a trial period. This usually allows you to try out the service for 30 days or so. You just need to cancel the service before the trial period ends and you shouldn't be billed. I believe that AOL still offers something along this lines and they have access numbers all over the place. Just make sure of the details on how to cancel so that you won't be billed.

Also, I forgot to mention that many ISPs that provide cable service also have some dial up numbers just for this situation. You should probably check with your ISP to see if they have any thing that will help. If not, then you can still look into the trial membership idea.

I use Netzero, which is a free (40 hours per month) internet provider. You can load it on the laptop and use a local (Orlando) number to log on. Each log-on will cost .35 for DVC members.

I do have a cable modem at home. They offer a dial up connection- but that costs $5.95 per hour for the connect. So, Netzero seemd to work well for DVC trips. Not all areas will have a local access for Netzero, so check the phone access on the site for your area.

It does have banner ads on the page, but is a very convenient (and cheap) way to access the internet while away from home. There is also a local access number for Netzero at HH.

Enjoy!

ez,

I have Roadrunner broadband cable service, and found a local access dial-up number from BWV. Check your IP's Technical Support page under topics such as remote access or on-the-road access. You'll likely find a solution.

Of course the other solution is to just let your DS call directly to Toronto. ;) Shouldn't be more than $1,000 or so in phone charges to his girlfriend.

Nice to hear from sombody from Ormond Beach! I use to drive down there to visit my grandmother every year. She use to live on Ocean Shore Dr. off A1A across what use to be the Erskin Motel. Is the beach side of A1A built up with condos and hotels yet? Can you drive on the beach as in Daytona? I know this reply does not answer your question but I saw Ormond Beach and it brought back many great memories.

Richnj... I know oceanshore drive very well...I used to deliver mail there earlier in my career. That was one long street on foot! The 'Ormond by the sea" area you are refering to has built up a bit but gets sparce as you head north towards Flagler. Still a very nice place.Where Ormond has really grown is out west. past 95. Unreal! You can drive on the beach in Ormond, but not by where your grandma lived. I think beach driving ends north of sr. 40.
Cap... I have roadrunner too. I guess I should explore that option first. If that doesn't pan out I'll try netzero. Thanks again for everyones help. It will be a much more pleasant weekend if my son is not moping around!
