I just cancelled all of our fastpasses and Adr's for next week because I felt like our trip was loosing the relaxed, go with the flow feel I really want for this one.Does anyone have advice for going without plans? We go very often and just booked a 3 night trip to see the holiday decor and attractions. We do have the Dxddp and a car this trip.Once I booked the fastpasses I started planning meals around them and all of a sudden our days were full.

I would either cancel the DXDP or remake some dining reservations. Otherwise you are spending a TON of money to not be able to eat anywhere.

And with crowds like they are now... I would NEVER go without FPs. You can choose to do something else, but if things are nuts, at least you're guaranteed a few experiences.

"Go with the flow," to me, means long lines and few experiences, but YMMV. And anytime you do DXDP you'll spend a ton of time in restaurants. It's pretty easy for days to book up that way.

Eh. I checked the dining options the night before Thanksgiving (which was pretty much sold out a few weeks ago - even Marrakesh was mostly booked!) and there were TONS of options. CRT, 'Ohana, BOG, LTT, Kona, Jiko, Sci Fi etc. all had openings. And that was a holiday. Unless your heart is set on a single restaurant, you will not go hungry booking reservations the night before or even hours before. I've stopped stressing about it because something good is always available at the last minute.

We often make FP's on the way to the parks and get nearly everything we want. We have even snagged Peter Pan and Mine Train last minute. Again, unless your heart is set on it you won't have much trouble grabbing stuff on the fly.

Enjoy your trip!

ETA: I would not advise to make no FP's at all - perhaps you could just make them as you go. Why wait in stand-by if you can snag a FP? Sometimes the window is just minutes away when you book :)

No ADR I can understand, we do that. We don't do the dining plan as it's a waste of money in our mind, OOP is cheaper but even if we did, we'd do it without ADR.. There are always ADR to be found, plenty of them. We eat TS 99% of the time and never book ADR more than 24 hours in advance.
No FP. That's nuts quite honestly. See no reason to not make FP at all. Why stand in line when you don't have to?

I can understand the ADR's. We go without ADR's all the time (though for our week-before-Christmas trip, I have 3 booked. The rest we will wing), but I would never do that if I had purchased a dining plan. In fact, we don't purchase the DDP for this very reason. I want to go with the flow and not be worried about using up credits. If you have no ADR's, I would seriously consider dropping the dining plan. No FP+ I don't really get. You can always modify them or not use them at all without penalty.

Oh, we'll make fastpasses while there....if there's anything we even want to ride. I just checked fp availability for tomorrow and besides Pandora, the only two things unavailable are the mine train and FEA. Tons of dining availability. I was shocked...50's , Beaches and Cream, Be our Guest, even 'Ohana and this is Thanksgiving weekend.

Agree re pp about dining plans: people hoard reservations then drop them and you can find most things you'd like 24 hours ahead of time (maybe not exactly what you want at exactly the right time, but you'll do fine). The FPs are another matter. Next week is NOT going to be a low crowd week. I would do your best to try to remake them. No need to use them when you get there if you're feeling stressed. I get it! It feels overwhelming! But having them--even as an insurance policy--is just the wise thing to do.

I'm going to be the odd man out and say I think you'll be fine on the DxDDP without reservations. I took a 5 day trip with my daughter in 2015 and we made reservations the day of and were able to get pretty much everything we wanted including BoG and Le Cellier. Especially with the 2 meal credit restaurants, they are almost always open. I say enjoy yourselves, you'll find somewhere delicious to eat, just periodically check the app!

I wouldn’t have cancelled ADR’s if I had the DXDP but what’s done is done. But, you know how your family works and how you like to do your meals. I actually turned down the free DDP that we would have had for the first 5 days of our trip and took the discounted Canadian tix. I agree with you that so much spontanaiety (sp?) is lost with having to book ADR’s and FP’s. We only have 4 ADR’s our whole trip and I don’t regret it one bit. That is plenty. It sounds like you are mainly going to see the decorations and have a few nice meals. I am sure you will have a great time! I would try to re-book some FP’s though. You can always cancel those the morning of if you don’t think your plans will work out. They can be there if you need them but if not, just cancel them.

Can understand getting overwhelmed with your planning and not feeling like it's relaxing. But I think there's zero reasons to cancel and not go with any FP's. Availability will drop a lot come the day of

Dining is a much too important part of the holiday for us. There are specific table service restaurants we want and would be disappointed if we were not able to dine where we wanted when we wanted.

I don't get the whole "relaxed, go with the flow" idea. For me, being relaxed is knowing I have my FP's set and my dining arranged...now I can relax and enjoy myself, not worrying about long lines and looking for ADRs day of or night before or constantly refreshing MDE to find FP's on the day... That would drive me nuts.

Everyone travels differently.

We went for 12 days with two reservations (f&w lunches) and only fast passes for FoP. It was awesome but we did not care if we did any attractions.

I agree with above posters. Dump the dining plan. You may end up being very stressed being tied to three sit down meals a day. Without it you can eat when and what you want.

As long as there is nothing you really want to experience go for it

Once I booked the fastpasses I started planning meals around them and all of a sudden our days were full.

The dining plan is/was the main issue here but I plan my days in the other order.

First, I choose the park(s) I want to be in and the ones I want to avoid on what day. Once I know that then I can choose dining and after that is where I slot in my FP+.

That being said, rarely and I mean very rarely do I plan more than one table service a day.

We go over in a few days as well- pretty much wing it- and don't do the dining plan. We have a few ADRs and 1-3 FPs per day over the course of the week. I would also agree- the dining plan is a waste. If you go often as you mentioned, why would you not have a TiW instead? It is a way better value for those that go a lot. Anyways, I get the idea of having a relaxing day in the park instead of having every moment of the day planned- but we wouldn't go over w/o at least having a couple of restaurant ressies lined up and some FPs for our faves. The deluxe dining plan is what kills the flow of a trip to WDW IMHO- we won't do it again. You are locked into a price point, and feel like you 'have' to do TS to get your 'money's worth', thereby spending a ton of time sitting in restaurants. If the food was amazing at WDW might have a different opinion on this, but most places it is mediocre at best and, for us, there are better ways of spending time in the parks than sitting in restaurants having 'just OK' meals.
