Please tell me, is it tolerable in mid July? I'm concerned about crabby kids and husband.

we go in August, tis hot ::yes::! drinks lots, take breaks, walk in as much shade as you can, take spray bottles (we use the walmart version w/ Mickey & Co. stickers), DS12 asks for lots of ice & puts it in his ball cap on his head -- makes for lovely pictures . One tip -- go to AK EARLY --- strange as this may sound that park is easily 5-10 degrees hotter than the other parks. Have Fun!:dance3:

We often go in July/August to avoid taking the kids out of school.

Yes its hot, yes its crowded and YES its tolerable. I find I dislike the crowds more than the heat, so I would advise getting to the parks early to avoid the mid-morning rush. We let our kids decide the pace and often stopped at various water play spots to relax.

If I had a choice of Disney in July or no Disney, I would definitely take Disney in July. Its not that bad!!!

Have Fun!

Hi. The OP asked about mid-July, what about the begining of July? I'm taking the kids down to Florida, staying with friends either at West Palm Beach or at Siesta Keys and thought I would surprise them with a day at Magic Kingdom. (DH has terminal brain cancer and is near the end, so this summer trip is a lets get out of NJ for a bit trip.) We would be there there sometime during the week of July 5th. Any different then? I know it'll be beastly hot. Will it be a little less crowded after the holiday weekend??

We usually always go in July. Yes it's HOT but it's doable. Like a previous poster said....be there at park opening. We usually take an afternoon break from 1-3, then head back to the parks. During the summer the hours are long, I think the parks are usually open until midnight. I love summer nights at Disney. Usually it's a perfect temperature and the parks have a different atmosphere at night.

We're going right when value season starts at the Deluxes--July 18th! I went a couple times as a kid in July with my parents. It was hotter than Hades, but I never minded it. Other posters are correct, drinks LOTS, take breaks and go out at night - Disney at night in the summer is lots of fun. I always personally enjoyed the afternoon thunderstorms, those usually cooled things down a bit and cleared out the parks too!

I'm sorry about your DH. The MK will be a bright spot. We always go the week of July 4th. Yes, it's hot and crowded, but if you plan correctly, you barely notice either the heat or the crowds. If you get there before rope drop, have a fastpass strategy and a smart touring plan, and take a break in the afternoon, it's very doable.

It is HOT and crowded.....but not impossible. Drink lots of water - we take the individual powdered drink mix (like Crystal Lite) to flavor the water from the WDW water fountains....(the water alone tastes horrible to me). Also spray bottle is a must....

We were there last year in late June, and it was HOT and very crowded. In fact, a CM at AK told us it was the most crowded he had ever seen. They had to bring out additional ropes for the AK train - we waited nearly an hour to get on that little train! Yikes!

We're heading down again mid-July this year. Original plans did not include Disney at all, but the GAD program is getting us there one day. (The rest of the time will be on the Gulf Coast). I am expecting it to be HOT and even more crowded than last year, but I know we'll still have a great time!

So sorry to hear about your DH. :grouphug:

Honestly, the week of July 4th is one of the most crowded but you can still go and have a great time. Plan to go to the parks first thing in the morning for rope drop and stay until after lunch. Take a break and return to the resort for a rest period or swimming then head back to the parks after dinner and stay until closing (usually midnight to 2am for MK). The later it gets the more the crowds thin out.
