Well I have decided that my debt has gotten the best of me and I am going into a debt consolidation program.

I have verified this is a non profit agency, and the are licensed, bonded and insured. They are located in Ft Lauderdale. Consolidated Credit Counsling is the company. Anyone else going through this? Done this? Considered this....

I guess the first step is reliezing I have a debt problem...now I just want it to go away...

I have never had experience here, but wanted to say congrats. It's a good step to try to get out of debt. It's hard, but you'll feel so much better w/o this giant hanging around you. Good luck!

we got a debt consolidation loan through our credit union three years ago. we are going to being debt free this spring. :)

good luck!

yes - if they are a good agency, one of the things they will do is help you formulate a budget. Make sure you have room in there for some "fun" money. Even if it's just $10 a week - everybody needs an allowance that they can blow on stuff, just to treat themselves. I've seen so many people come up with plans that are simply unlivable, and then they drop it within the first 6 months because they are just way too miserable to live with it.

And then .... follow the budget. Find a good support system or internet board, and when you get tempted to run out and buy a new couch or whatever, let them scream at you for a bit.

Hang in there.

Congrats Dax.

Good company! We went through their program and paid off our debt. We were with them for a little over 2 years and never had any problems, they were professional and very helpful through out the process, even after we paid the debt off.

There were no marks on our credit and our credit scores improved dramatically as a result of going through the program. As a result we were able to secure a great mortgage with a low fixed rate with no points or pre paymant penalties.

If you have any other ??? just ask!

I just wanted to say that it sounds like you're making a great step! Way to go!

Yep. I used them about 10 years ago. It was a great company and I got out of debt and stayed out. Just follow all of their guidelines and you will do well, too.

I just wanted to wish you well in your quest to be debt free! It's very hard to discipline yourself but It can be done!

Good Luck !! ask lots of questions, especially about how this will affect your credit future. ;) so when you go to buy a car or get a mortgage there are no surprises or regrets.
I have read that it does blemish your credit but no to the extent of bankruptcy. If this happens...you can request at the end that your creditors re-age your accounts since you paid them off. then they look positive instead of negative. Some times the agency makes an agreement for lower payments/principal only, etc. and the card still looks past due because the "actual" minimum isn't being paid.

there are lots of good websites to research this. You should really go into this consumer aware so you don't find out the hard way that it wasn't all good a few years down the road.

creditboards.com will have some helpful info.

Good Luck !!!:sunny:

Hope it all works out for you
