Hi everyone. Me and my family are taking a trip to WDW in August, second week. I know it is going to be hot and crowded. But does anyone have any tips that i could use? Thanks a bunch.

Take a fan/water bottle to cool yourself with that you bought at home, they cost $18.00 in the parks.

Buy bottled water at Walmart get the Aquafina brand it is not bottled in Florida so it will taste good. Also avoid the ice,it makes drinks taste Bad. Brush Teeth with bottled water, too.

Eat in air conditioned sit down restaurants during hottest part of the day.

Watch air conditioned Shows during hottest weather.

When it gets crowded Return to Hotel to swim and nap then return in late afternoon.

Wear SunBlock spf 30 waterproof!! Gel on faces and necks. Spray sunblock on the rest

We'll be there in August as well. The one thing I can say is don't try to do too much at one time. Take it easy. If you're uncomfortable take a break from the heat. There is no point to pushing your body beyond what you can handle in the heat. With the crowds, make use of fastpass. Get your mind set that sometimes you'll have to wait.

Thanks. Another thing is we will be In WDW for about 5 to 6 days. Anyone know what activities there are other than the theme parks that we could do that DONT cost much money. Also what kind of pass should we get. THanks :D

This will be our second August trip so you will survive the heat! Take your time and hit the airconditioned areas.

We always tour the resorts, visit DTD (free if you don't buy anything ;) ) and catch a movie at FW.

Take a sweater! You probably think I'm nuts for saying that, but after sweating in the parks all day I was fffffffreeeeeezing in the airconditioned restaurants at dinner. :(

Hi -
Last year was our first trip in August, or ever, in WDW. Over a few days, you don't even notice the heat as long as you stay very hydrated (watch the kids, especially), go in & out of A/C and listen to your body when it tells you to rest.

My kids and spent 2 1/2 weeks last summer - unplanned - and went exploring "outside" the parks - the Orlando Science Musuem was FABULOUS and excellent value., DTD, as suggested above, is great to walk around late in the day - have ice cream, shop for trinkets.
Drink, drink, drink. We found the more water we drank, even though it meant extra pit stops, the more energy we had and the better we felt!

Enjoy!!!!

Don't know if you will have a car, but a trip to the beach was something my kids just loved, which surprised me. I should have known a free day might turn out to be one of the best......

Have a water plan, and get fanny packs for your kids with a netted water bottle carrier. Was there this last May, 95 degrees, and people just were not pre-pared. Pester them to drink from it all the time. I found the ice from our ice machine at our hotel tasted just fine when melted, so we brought empty 20 oz bottles of gatorade and filled with ice and kept some in a cooler bag in our stroller and backpacks. Then we had ice cold water all day. We brought about 3-4 of these each day for each person.

Hats

Aqua Cooler cooling bandanas found at Wal-Mart sporting good section for everybody

We went in late July early August last time and will return middle of August this time. My biggest tip is to drink water. I am a woman and ended up with a urinary track infection by the end of the trip because of my lack of drinking and the heat.

Next trip is. go to Animal Kingdom early in your trip when you are energetic and not worn down. It has to be the hottest park there because of the lush grounds, and the least amount of air conditioned places to rest.

Like the other poster said, you can adjust to the heat rather well if you stay hydrated and dont overextend yourself.

Something that costs nothing - just hanging at the resort pool or running through the water spouts at DD.

Tips:

1. Take a mid-day break - a necessity
2. Lots of sunscreen
3. Take a plastic over the door shoe holder for toilettries in bathroom.
4. Relax - you will definitely not see it all in 5 or 6 days, so don't kill yourself trying. Take time to enjoy the "magic".

Have fun!!

I've been in Florida in June, July and August. What I've found is this.... DO NOT expect to be in the parks after 10:30 in the morning. I'm totally serious about this. It is way too hot and you'll be miserable. Go until 10:30am and come back to the hotel and swim, have lunch, and wait for the rain to end (it pours for about 20-60 min usually everyday around 2:30pm) and then from say 4:00pm on spend in the parks. We have tried every other way and this system works the best! ONE more tip... in the morning before you dress, put on your sunscreen. Florida sun is unforgiving. You'll be a lobster and miserable in no time. Do NOT walk outside without it! I know! I waited to put sunblock on until I was down at the pool . I sat out for about 15 minutes thinking 'oh I'll get a little sun and then put on the block.... ' WRONG... I got sun poisoning.. and couldn't be in the sun for the rest of the vacation. I'm not very fair and usually tan easy, so be warned!

We always go in August and I must say- Get up early, put sunscreen on (don't forget the ears!!) and do what you can until 10:30-11:00 am. It will be VERY HOT and CROWDED by then!! Go back to the pool or into aircondition and relax until later that afternoon or evening!!

Late morning/afternoon breaks
LOTS of water.
Our kids (and my DH) would LOVE to sleep
past 7:00 in the morning on vacation, but when
you travel to Disney in August, as we do
every year - you gotta move it in the morning.
We are also ready to leave the parks by
11:00-12:00 and won't go back till after
the afternoon storms. Also, carry the ponchos,
every, single day! Take it slow and have
a great time!

We have done several summer trips, but always enjoyed the advantages of early entry and very late evening hours, which made the mid-day break easy to do. With the parks opening so late and closing so early, how is this really working this summer? Seems like it would hardly be worth coming back.

I'm having trouble re-adjusting my expectations! My kids are getting old enough to try longer stretches without the break, but unfortunately, the older "me" is dubious. We will be there in early August.

I found that the best time to visit MK, was at night during the parade. Everybody was lining the streets to view the parade, so my party was able to ride all of the best rides, with vitrually no wait. Also, seeing as how you are going in the summer, you could attend a waterpark, or DTD during the day, then catch one of the other parks at night, during their respective shows.

Bring hats for everyone and make them wear em.

Bring an extra hat for each child, as they tend to set them down and lose them.

Don't forget to reapply sunscreen after lunch.

I totally agree. Hats are fabulous in the sun, especially if they have a brim all the way around. They sell bucket hats in the parks (y'know, they look like fishermen's hats) and they make good souvenirs too. ...Better than those hats that look like Mickey's glove. Where would you wear that again? But, to each his own....

When/if it rains in the parks, stay in the park and don't go to the hotel like everyone else. But don't get wet or you'll be shivering on the air-conditioned rides. Use ponchos -- buy them before you leave.

This will be the 3rd straight August we will be spending at WDW.
If you have a car, pack an ice cooler with drinks and lots of ice. When you walk back to your car, you will not only have cold drinks waiting for you, but if any of the ice melts, you will have cold water to cool your face with!

Another thing we do is to get the Capri packaged drinks and freeze them the night before we go to the park. While you're waiting in line, you can pull out a nice cool drink and be the envy of all everyone around you. We also bring Quaker granola bars to snack on while waiting in line.

And while you are walking around from attraction to attraction, walk through any air conditioned stores along your route to get out of the heat.
