My company just informed me that I will be attending a training seminar in Orlando from 9/19 - 9/22. We will be staying at the Walt Disney World Hilton in the Downtown Disney area.

I'm excited... depressed... and upset all at once.

Excited because I get to be in my favorite place on earth.

Depressed because I can't bring my wife and kids... and it just won't be the same.

Upset because I'm concerned it may 'ruin' some of the Disney memories I've got. I LOVE sitting in certain spots throughout Disney World and enjoying a relaxing time with my wife and kids. I don't want work to interfere.

Anyway... I get to FINALLY play the Magnolia course the afternoon of arrival. Beyond that, we're in meetings all day Tuesday and Wednesday. The evenings, I believe, are ours.

Anybody have some non-park suggestions?

It's going to be different not staying at AKV or BLT... but, only a few short months later, we'll be back as a family.

Thanks for listening to my mini-rant.

My DH and two of the kids stayed at the Hilton one year and enjoyed it very much. You are within walking distance of DTD so just enjoy all that has to offer. I understand it not being the same without your family present, but this is an opportunity to do some things on your own and experience the place in a whole new way. I didn't think I'd have as much fun on a solo trip, but I was wrong. It was wonderful, just different. Enjoy! :thumbsup2

Congrats on being sent by your employer for training! Enjoy every minute!

FWIW, our primary travel to WDW is for work-related conference events. It is "weird" for us to visit WDW in vacation mode. When we do visit for pleasure, we find ourselves missing the buzz and energy of the conference!

Sure, it will be different -- but do try to find new spots to unwind. Enjoy observing human interaction from a different perspective and send a few photos back to the family. Our favorite non-park activities include spending hours wandering Animal Kingdom Lodge and its grounds. The rocking chairs on the public decks are awesome!
