Going from a MK area Deluxe to an Epcot area Deluxe

If you normally stay at a MK deluxe resort, then decided to try an Epcot Deluxe (Beach or Yacht), were you happy? Did you miss the MK resort and area too much? Or did you totally love your new hotel by Epcot?

I stay at both when I go to WDW. Beach Club first, then Bay Lake Tower (DVC). Both are great

We go to Disney frequently the past 3 years we always stay at mk resort because of our son he is only 3 years old. While we stayed at the Epcot resorts many times before he was born this October will be our first time staying over the beach club with him. I’m looking forward to be able to walk over to Hollywood studios for toy story land rope drops and doing all the character dining that is nearby (cape May garden grill trattoria) and other fine dining over by that area that we normally don’t get to when we stay over by the mk resorts .I know we will miss the mk resorts but since we go often I wanted to change it up this time. Also the monorails breaking down so much last trip also have us curious if it be easier to get to mk from the beach. Club with Minnie vans and the new bus app etc. plus seeing people stuck on monorails having to push the windows open for air I think we’ll skip this time and won’t miss the monorails at all.

I tried it once and never went back. We now own several DVC contracts at the beach club and stay there almost exclusively. Second choice would be the boardwalk. The MK area has its appeal, the monorail, and the nostalgia, but the amenities and quick access to 2 theme parks is just hard to beat. Being able to take a 5 minute walk to the Epcot world showcase any time is awesome, and all the restaurants, shops, and amenities around crescent lake are really nice. (and Stormalong Bay makes any MK resort pool seem pretty sad in comparison )

My son was confused when he opened the curtain at the BW and there was no castle out the window or monorail to watch. However he quickly came to love the Epcot resorts! He loved watching the magician on the BW, the boats, and the ability to get to two parks easily.

I prefer the Epcot area to MK resorts. I'm not a fan of the monorail, which seems to break down more often than it runs.

When are kids were younger we always stayed at the GF or Polynesian. As they got older we switched to YC/BC. While the MK resorts will always hold a special,place in our hearts, we found that we loved YC/BC even more

Sadly we have now downgraded to CBR since we have 3 in college

We love both the MK resort area and the Epcot resort area. It’s funny, because when I’m staying at a MK resort, I’m missing the Epcot resorts and vice versa. We tend to do split stays because we love both areas so much and with a split stay we feel like we get the best of both worlds.

When we first started going back in the early 80s, the MK resorts were the only game in town if you wanted to stay on site so that's where we stayed. As soon as they opened the Epcot resorts, we moved over there and haven't looked back. While I love GF itself, I'm not a fan of the monorail and Epcot is our favorite park so the Epcot resorts make more sense. My son is grown and MK is just a half day park for us while we are at Epcot or HS every day, being able to walk to those parks is great. I will admit, finances and being cheap has caused us to switch to Dolphin more often than not, it's still an Epcot resort and we love it.

Yes before I had my son we always felt the same way as you do. But now we frequent the MK mainly during our visits. Epcot is not a priority anymore and the pool at beach club amazing as it is is overwhelming when you have a toddler that runs. Looking forward to our trip to the beach club in october and seeing how we feel about it this time around.

We are going to do a 8 night split stay with Poly and BC, just not sure if I should do 4 and 4 or 5 and 4? Any thoughts?

I always go for more days, so I’d do 5 and 4. We typically stay for 9 or 10 nights. Our splits are either 6/3 or 7/3. I’m not sure why we do it that way, we just do. Our very first split stay stemmed from my boys wanting to stay at the BC and DH and I wanting to stay at the Poly. Only DH and I stayed at the Poly before on an adults-only trip and my boys weren’t sure they’d like it (silly boys). We decided to stay at the BC for 6 nights so my boys could enjoy that resort and then we moved over to the Poly for 3 nights. My boys ended up loving the Poly, so our next trip was 3 nights at BC and 6 nights at Poly. This past summer we decided to give POR a try since so many on these boards like it and we were looking to save money. We stayed there for 7 nights and then moved over to the YC for 3 nights. We aren’t returning until the summer of 2020 and we are planning on staying for 12 nights. For that trip we will probably do a 6/6 split. We had all intentions of doing a Poly/BC or YC split until we stayed at POR and fell in love. Now we are thinking of splitting with POR, lol. I have time to figure it out.

Since you know you like the Poly, maybe you could do a 5/3 split or a 6/3 split. That way if you get to BC and are disappointed (I can’t imagine that happening), you are only there for a short time.

This exactly! We've stayed in every deluxe multiple times and we are pretty much done with the monorail resorts. The monorail is so unreliable and, honestly, I never need to hear the electric water pageant blaring in my room ever again. EP is my favorite park, so staying in the EP area is a no brainer. I love that you can simply walk to 2 parks, a ton of restaurants and have fantastic pools at our disposal. I also love that the price point is typically a little lower in the EP area.

If you can do 5/4 great - longer is better! But if you can only do 4/4, that's good too. I think you need at least 4 nights to enjoy a resort. I would, perhaps, take a look at your park plans and see which split makes more sense from a transportation/logistics perspective.

Our first deluxe stay was a MK area resort.
We next stayed at an Epcot area resort. And never looked back. We rarely stay at MK area resorts now. Only if there is something that really makes it where walking to MK is preferable. All other cases we'd rather be around Epcot. I find the resorts and staff so much more to my liking. And best of all, no monorail to deal with.

Epcot resorts are our family's preference too. We just did a split stay with Contemporary and Beach Club and didn't feel like we were in Disney World until we got to Beach Club. Weird, I know, but that's how we felt. I feel like the Epcot resort area is a much better "resort" experience.

What do you love so much about POR? I just had friends stay there and didnt love it. I have to say I have stayed at Caribbean beach 2 times years ago (before I knew about "requests") and it was just eh. I hate the thought being a bus only hotel. So sell me on POR and why you love it because I have visited it and even eaten there, and do find it appealing. But my friends just stayed there and weren't blown away. So I would love to hear your thoughts on it, especially as someone who does a split stay with a deluxe and POR. How can you stay at a Deluxe and still be happy with a moderate on the same trip, kwim? What makes up for not being on the monorail or being walking distance to Epcot, etc? Aside from the cost factor that is.

Having stayed at the Contemporary two times before children, I do now feel it's lacking in a resort feel, which is why even though it's nostalgic to me, I won't spend my money staying there.
