Because I had gestational diabetes with my first pregnancy, I have to go for the test early this time. I'm about 11 weeks along. I tested my blood sugar yesterday after breakfast (about an hour afterward) and it was 185!!! I'm just going to assume that I have gestational diabetes again and I'm even thinking I've developed type 2 diabetes.

I'm a bit upset because I just love food and love my treats (especially in WDW) and I'm upset that I may not be able to enjoy that anymore.

Anyway, just wanted to check in yet again and I will post when I get my results.

BTW, I have to fast for this test and I haven't eaten anything since 6:30 last night and it's almost 9am. I have to drink 50mg of this awful sugary drink and I know I'm going to be nauseous. My mom is going with me so I can lay on her shoulder if I feel sick. Thanks mom!

Good luck, and let us know how things turn out.....here's praying for a healthy pregnancy for you.

Good luck scanne! Hopefully the sugary drink won't make you feel too nauseous. Hang in there, and please let us know how you go on.

((hugs)) to you and let us know how things go....

reminds me of when I was in the hospital in Sept. when I had pulmonary embolism in both my lungs, I had been scheduled for a glucose tolerance test and mentioned that to the doctor, but my blood sugar had been 180 when they checked and the doctor said "you don't need a glucose tolerance test, with a reading of 180 you have type II diabetes."

I was SO NERVOUS about having to test myself (4 times daily at first, now I'm down to just morning and bed-time) and LEARN about the carbohydrates, etc. in food...it was a bit overwhelming BUT...they did say that I could probably get off the medication (I take 500mg of glucophage every morning) IF I would LOSE WEIGHT AND EXERCISE...

I've lost 34 pounds so far and have gotten into exercising and it REALLY helps a LOT!!! I just had one of those blood tests where they measure your blood sugar over the past 3 months and it was EXCELLENT my doctor said. :) She said they like it at 7 at least, and mine was 5.5.

I really haven't had to GIVE UP any of my favorite foods, I just have had to learn to eat them in MODERATION. Instead of having fast food 2-3 times a week as in the past, I have learned I can be happy and have fries just ONCE in a WHOLE MONTH!!! :teeth:

Yesterday, being Christmas, I did not even write my foods down in my food diary. We had family here at our house and had all kinds of food but I just "grazed" and didn't "stuff myself." My sugar was only 118 when I went to bed, so can't complain about that at all!! :)

Good luck to you!!! ((hugs))

Sending you PD :wizard: to help you through the test and awful drink. I have had to do that drink before not being expecting and it was really bad. I hope that you get through it just fine. I'm glad you'll have your Mom there with you, that always helps too.

Good luck, scanne. That sugary drink sounds awful, but I'm glad your mom will be there to help you through it. Here's some :wizard: for a good outcome for your test.

??? I'd think a blood sugar of 185 BEFORE you ate was a problem, but an hour after? Isn't that normal for your blood sugar to go up?

My mom was recently diagnosed with Type II diabetes and they want her sugars to be 150 or below, but that's pre-meal.

Hmmmm....maybe I'm missing something.

Hope all goes well. I, too, had to do the sugary, orange, sickening sweet drink when I was pregnant the first time. Blech. But you'll get through it b/c you're doing what's best for your baby. :) Good luck!

I hope all went well with your test today! I'm sending good thoughts and pixie dust your way.

Hi everyone!

The test wasn't so bad...I had lemon lime and not orange. The lab tech said she only gives the orange drink to people that annoy her. She knows me well, she's been doing my bloodwork now for three years.

Anyway, I won't have any results until either Monday or my next regulary OB appt. which is 1/12. I will keep you posted!

Chattyaholic,

Thanks for sharing your story. I think it is GREAT that you are managing with diet and exercise. After this baby is here I am going on a new eating and exercise plan so that I can manage my sugars better!!! I love the support I get here!

I want to wish all of you a Happy & Healthy New Year!

Anne
