I just printed out the daily Calendar from Disney and noticed that Splash Mountain, Mark Twain, Professor Baranaby Owl, Tom Sawyer Island, and Fantastmic River Show will be closed for Refurbishment.

I am feeling a little sad cause I was so excited for Splash Mountain. Does anyone know if the calendar says it will be closed, that it is very accurate, or do they ever change the refurbishing schedule?

Splash mountain has been closed since the end of January they are replacing the lift mechanisms in the ride. It's supposed to be closed through mid May. If they finish everything in time then it might open earlier by a few days or a week or so but usually the refurb schedules are pretty accurate!

Yep, azgal81 is right, it's been down for awhile and still has a while to go!! Sorry, just something to look forward to when you go again!!

Thanks everyone.. that was a good perspective on something we will have to look forward to the next time we go!

Yeah we are going mid-April also and I was sad to see Splash was closed. It's the one ride I didn't ride that I REALLY wanted to ride during my year of AP (9 trips). Haven't ridden it since 1992, aack!! LOL

Yes Op. When i learned i would be able to go to disneyland about 3 months ago. I was so excited to be able to ride splash, as it is my favorite all time ride in WDW. And, I have never been able to ride it in disneyland only to find out, it was closed. I was very sad, because I know. I will never probably go back to disneyland. Since, I live on the east coast. So, even though i was sad I turned my focus to my favorite fantasyland ride that use to be in WDW. But, is no longer, there. (Mr Toads wild ride) Only to find out about a week ago, that now that ride will be closed. When I am there. :confused3 :sad2:

DLR has three high season periods - similar to WDW.

o Summer
o Holidays (Thanksgiving-New Years)
o Spring Break

In between, there are off-seasons which last about 2 -2.5 months (Jan-Early March, and Sept-Early Nov). Whenever possible, DLR schedules refurbs during these off-season periods.

But some refurbs require more time than 2.5 months. When this happens, it usually cuts into the Holidays (last year Matterhorn was down until mid-Dec because it required a 3.5 month refurb) or Spring Break (Splash Mtn with its current 4+ month refurb, and POTC down in 2006 for 4 months). The only time DLR has rides refurbed in summer is when it is a super major refurb like when Space Mtn was down for 2.5 years.

The bottom line is that if you want to have maximum rides running, that means go at Christmas/New Years or during the summer (mid-to-late June through August).

If you go during the Holiday period or Spring Break, you should have most everything up and running. If you go in off-season you will likely have several things down for refurb.

Bummer about Splash Mtn for those of you who were looking forward to it, as normally it would be open for Spring Break high season. Just not this year. :sad1:
