Hi all. :wave2:

It's been a while since I have posted here, but I have a question to ask you all.

I booked my families vacation during the last week of May going into June, and I just found out that gay days are during this time. :goodvibes

What are the crowds like during this time? Also, what events are going on? I'm just quelling my families fears just regarding large groups of tourists groups. lol :rotfl:

Maybe I'll see some of you all on our trip. Who here is going?

I apologize in advance for the tone of this message, but I'm on a roll tonight.

Two things:

#1...Did you also post inquiries about crowds associated with the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival? Star Wars weekends? The big soccer thing being held at Disney's Wide World of Sports? Those things are also going on at the same time, yet everyone's worried all of a sudden about the homos clogging up the parks.

#2...I had to re-read what you said like 5 times to be sure I wasn't hallucinating. You're okay with "us people" because we're not as bad as Brazilian tourists? Charming. :rolleyes2

Maybe she's worried about explaining to her kids why their are grown mini in tutu and tiaras?

And for the record, I'm gay.

If you want more information on Gay Days at WDW try searching google. The first result should be the official site. From there you can get an overview of the events, and how to plan around them (if you wish). I can't tell you much about Gay Days because I go to the park when ever I feel like it. Fact is there will be a good number of gay people in the park at any given time. On Gay Days they might be wearing red shirts, and you might see one in hot pants or perhaps even a drag queen. :confused3: From what I've read the big crowds will be at Magic Kingdom on Sat.

I also go to WDW any day--no need to wait for Gay Days. I'm still looking for the Unofficial WDW Blond Days and the Unofficial WDW Myopia Days so I can meet up with those who have the same hair color and refractive error I do.

Why the hostility??? :sad2:

If I was talking on the UK boards, I would say "you all", or on the ebay boards or whatever group I was talking to.

It doesn't matter to me one way or the other.. I was honestly wanting to know about how the crowds were. I have nothing against the gay community.

Did someone get up on the wrong side of the bed this morning??

I have not been during Gay Days, but the I have heard that it is typically hot and crowded that weekend and the rest of the summer. Late May-early June is a busy time for WDW because of the special events, Memorial Day weekend, and the end of the school year.

Woah! Not every question is a veiled homophobic comment Tampaguys! Give folks a chance before you pounce! If I were to go to WDW during Gay Days, I'd want to know where the crowds were going to be as well, so I can grab my partner and run in the other direction!

Dude, I am so glad we're on the same side 'cause I would not want you all up in my face, know'm'sayin'.

Two comments:

1. I have apologized to the poster in private for letting my venom, which was being put to use in other threads, ooze over into this thread. I considered the possibility that I was being excessively harsh at the time I was writing my reply, and that apology in advance was actual, not just symbolic.

2. I also explained to the poster why I thought that the statement that gay people aren't as bad as Brazilian tourists was, in fact, a bigoted comment. (Replace "gay people" and "Brazilian tourists" with "Jews" and "black people" and I think you'll get the drift.)

The poster insisted to me in private that it wasn't meant to seem like that, and I believe her. She chose to go back and edit that comment out of her post. I appreciate that gesture and apologize again for being unnecessarily harsh. Like I said, I was on a roll last night.

I play very well with others usually. There are only a few things I feel this strongly about...the list is pretty much topped out by gay rights, monogamy, and the belief that men should not over-pluck their eyebrows until they look like Nicole Kidman.

:lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

In the past I have gotten involved in these discussions, and I will agree, it is very easy to get all worked up over the issue. I try to just be an observer now. We have a great team of straight allys on this board, and if left alone, they will set the record set. Tampaguys, it takes a real man to appologise, great job!

If you're concerned about answering too many awkward questions from inquisitive young minds.. just stay away from MK on the Saturday around gay days..

We went last years explicitly FOR this event.. and that was the only day we could really tell what was going on.. so.. the rest of the week -- regardless of the park - should be fine.

Its interesting. I tried to flip this question around in my head. And let's say that I booked a vacation to Disney during some extremely religious week (let's say.. the 100,000 strong "[Insert Religion Here] Against Homosexuality Visit Disney WeeK") While I might not be ashamed or what have you about changing my vacation, I might change it just because I'd feel like I wouldn't 'fit in' that week.

Fitting in isn't the most important thing.. but neither is feeling awkward or uncomfortable during my vacation.

Since this is a thread that pops up in this forum a LOT .. might I suggest that we -- as a gay group of DISBOARD users -- craft a message that can be contained in a STICKY at the top of this forum.. ? Perhaps that message can be worded in a pro-active and explaining way.. Something maybe like an FAQ

ie:
What are Gay Days?
What are the events?
My family has our vacation booked during gay days.. will we feel out of place?

Just a thought.
