well, you all know by now how mad I am, so after much discussion and soul searching I've decided not to take the council job I got (which I actually really didnt like the sound of anyway) and I'm going to do something Ive always wanted to do..........

........I'm going to apply to University to get my BA in English and then taking my teaching qualification to teach Secondary schools.....

Mad? Probably!

Well, I figure after changing husbands, homes, counties and now jobs I may as well go the whole hog!

...and its not like I dont have experieince with stroppy teens!

SO, went to Reading Uni open day on Saturday and have sent off to UCAS for an application form for next year. In the mean time Ive applied for a job as an education welfare assistant (year contract) to broaden my experieince, and have applied for a taster course in secondary teaching!

Wish me luck....................I'll need it!

Lots and lots of luck to you!

How great that you are going for it. I think it is so easy to stay in the same job (or type of job anyway!) so good for you :) :)

Good luck My son who graduated in Maths this summer has just started a PGCE so this time next year he'll be teaching too.

Having two teenagers in the house at the moment, I have to say you must be completely barking! :teeth: ;) ;)

But... being in the middle of trying to change careers myself, I have to say "Well done, you!" Sometimes these things just feel right, don't they? If you want to do it and can do it, then go for it - you could be wondering "what if?" for a long time :)

I think this is GREAT news I know it's something you always wanted to do and I say "why the heck not!"

Good Luck Mandy :)

 Way - to - go girl::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

Now that's what a I call a few changes!!

Much happiness Mandy.

Well done, you :hyper:. How long will you be studying before you can apply for a teaching post? Will you have to work to earn money during the course, or will you be a full-time student?

I'd love to change careers - my job gets more stressful each year - but I always seem to talk myself out of it. Whenever I write a list of pros and cons I think I'd be mad to give up what I've got, but I really don't enjoy it any longer. My other problem is that I just don't know what I'd do. There are several things I quite fancy, but I'd have to retrain and I'd have to be earning at the same time, so I worry that I would be even more stressed than I am now!

Bizarely, I'm applying for promotion this week for a position which can only lead to more stress, albeit with a substantial increase in salary. I'm really not looking forward to the assessment - a day of role plays, presentations, structured interviews, business line interviews and "Top Grading" (which seems to be the latest trendy recruitment tool). Perhaps you've given me the inspiration to do something different...

Well done and good luck with your decision

Annmarie

Deb, the move to Reading gave me the chance to try something different, otherwise Id still be in the same position as you. When you have a responsible job with stress its very hard to give up and try something different isnt it?

As I say its only because I had to change jobs anyway that it gave me the push to change careers comepletly.

Its going to take 3 years to get my degree, followed by a further year for my teaching qualification (as I want to teach secondary school).............so as you know, I'll be an old woman by then!;)

The idea is to work for this next year in an education related job (Ive just applied for a job as an Education Welfare Assistant) then start my degree next October.:Pinkbounc

Of course the holidays will have to go..................:( :(
