Going back to school at 35+!

My mom{42} is currently finishing her 3rd semester of nursing this week and next. She has had some delays in the past few years that she has been in school just from my brother going to iraq, hurricane katrina, and me having to move to houston b/c of my cancer. As far has school goes she has done very well.

God Bless you and your family!:tinker:

I did to and it was tough but I got my paralegal cert. which I don't use but I went anyway, lol. Good job and good luck!!

Thanks for all the encouragement here. I know that I have to take cna class, 1 math class, 1 chem class and 2 biology classes. All the other pre-reqs transferred. Then I can start the nursing classes. Congrats :cool1: to all who have accomplished and cheers :cheer2: to all starting out.

I went back too. I'm only 24, so not quite the same, but still a lot different than when you are 18 or 19 and don't have to work full time on top of it! Good thing I don't have any kids (yet)! I do all of my classes online. We have five semesters a year, which are 8 weeks each. During each semester, you take six hours of classes, so you have a total of thrity hours a year. I want to finish earlier, though, so I am doing an overload of nine hours a semester (45 hours a year), and will finish in less than three years. I really love it, as I HATED going to class (I have a 4.0 when I quit traditional school; I thought it was boring). Then I just have to get my PhD... THEN I can be a clinical psychologist, like I have wanted to since I was 12.

Best wishes to all who are going back! You can do this! :cheer2:

Sweetie, I was an executive assistant to the CEO of Colliers Seeley International in Los Angeles. . .I was there for many, many years, but I always wanted to be a nurse. I just graduated in December, I am 46 years old and I am LOVING. . .LOVING my new life. . . I am so glad I did this.

Trust me when I say you will not regret your decision at all.

Thank you!!! My brother is no longer on active duty(we are currently waiting for him to receive a letter to go back) and has been home since Jan 06 as well as I have been cancer free since Jan 06. So now my mom will be finishe in dec 07. Yay to all of us!

I returned for an AS in Network Administration in '03. I have found that in general, adult students are much more focused and often more successful than those right out of HS. My mantra about going back to school is "you get out what you put in". The rewards are great if you make the effort!

Be sure and cultivate your support systems...study groups, advisors, etc at school and relatives & friends for childcare!

Good Luck!

Good luck to you. I did the same thing. Went back to school when my child was 2 1/2. Went to Radiography school. I graduated 10 years ago. I'm so glad I did it.

Good luck!! I too am going back to school for my nurses degree (at age 29). I have an AA, but now want to complete a degree. My kids are 6 and 4 (in 1 week). I'll just be taking 2 classes this fall, but will try and go full time once both kiddos are in school!

I'm starting a master's program in Library and Information Science in a couple weeks! I'm excited about it, but very nervous about having to write papers and do homework again. Hopefully the time will go by quickly, and I'll have the degree soon :)

WTG hallam5! :woohoo:

I started back to school when I was 30. I had a 6mo old daughter and found out I was pregnant again right after I enrolled for classes  But I have endured, starting off with 1 or 2 classes at a time, then going full-time since 2002. I am proud to say I am graduating this Saturday with my bachelor's degree and starting grad school Monday. It's a great feeling!!

I went back to school and graduated with my associates then my bachelors in business all the time working full time during the day, married with 2 boys- tough job to do!! Now I am bored because no more school!!

:lmao: I sooo look forward to that kind of boredom. 1 more year to go. I've been working full time and going to school full time for 5 years now. I'm tired.

I went to back to college at 28 after being a stay at home mom with a two year old toddler. I graduated last December, and now I'm going back to get my Master's in History. You can do it, and you have a huge advantage over all the younger students: you actually know what the real world is like! :lmao:

I'm in school right now. I decided in Sept. at the age of 35 and being a single mom of an 8 year old to go to nursing school. I love it and I'm glad I made the decision. I'm surprised at how many people wait to go back to school at an older age. My class ranges in age from 18-57. I think we're more focused as we get older.

My first year in law school I met a gentleman who, after being a dairy farmer for decades, decided to follow his dream of being a lawyer. He was 60 years old. As we were talking he told me that his inspiration to finally go to law school was a letter to Dear Abbey he read in a newspaper one day, which he cut out and always carried with him (I am writing the following from memory, but I know Abbey's response by heart):

"Dear Abbey: I would love to go to college and get a diploma, but in four years I will be 50 years old. What should I do". signed, Confused."

"Dear Confused: How old will you be in four years if you didn't go back to college?"

Hi all.

I went back to school at 29 with a 1 year old, while moving and DH, DD and I were living with parents in the interim. 2 years later I'm settled in the house. Have my masters and am in my 2nd year teaching. I just want to kick myself for not doing it when I wanted to at 21 and chickened out. The $ would be so much better!

At least DD is 4 and on June 22 we are off for our first way too expensive family vaca to WDW. 2 nights POR 6 nights WL!!

I will be 30 in a short couple of weeks. I have my 3 kiddos 7,9,10. and been married almost 11yrs. I am currently enrolled in an online college to get my Early Childhood education degree. I am loving it.

I'm 47 and I quit my job in January to return to school. I already have a BS in Natural Resource Management. Now I'm going for my elementary education degree, then I plan on going for my masters. I really love going to school and you know what, homework and writing papers didn't turn out to be too bad. Finals start next week, DD graduates from high school May 19th then we leave for WDW on the 22nd. We will return in time for summer school which starts June 11th.
