That is just not right! I would agree with jcc0621, and talk to the principle about it. Especially since one teacher is okay with it and another is not? Parents take kids from school for vacations all the time! So sorry you have to deal with this!

I'm confused. Social workers have a LOT of important things to do other than visit parents who are taking their kids to Disney. I've known social workers & can't believe they would put such a thing on their schedule. There are kids being molested. I don't think the "evil parents who are taking their kids to Disney" will be high on the priority.

Or is this a state by state thing? Because if a teacher told me that here in Ohio, I would know she was just being mean-spirited & trying purposefully to ruin my vacation as if you miss days here you are visited by a truancy officer. If this is the case in your state, I would report her to the principal, superintendent, etc. She shouldn't have made your kids feel bad & she shouldn't have threatened you. And she should be able to back up everything she says with a piece of paper.

Reporting unexcused absences to a social worker and they will be paying you a visit upon your return, OMG! How awful! I can't believe that teacher and that seems very extreme

Hi! Rebekah got some new clothes today so I will be doing some repacking tonight. No clouds on my vacation!Unless its this one..

If the social worked did come to visit I'd tell them "look here... you are going to try and punish me... a parent who just spent ___ days with my kids giving them my full attention.... give me a break!"

That's ridiculous... That teacher needs to get a grip!

Even though this woman is a friend of the family it sounds like she has a bit of a grudge for some reason. Maybe you need to talk to the principal when you return. I wouldn't worry about it - Have a great time on your trip, 3 more days I have only been home 3 days and I am already planning next years trip

No grudge,she just feels very strongly about school attendance.If the social worker actually gets involved I will talk to the principal.We actually have a substitute principal because ours is overseas adopting a little girl. When I return from this trip I have one in January to plan.

Unfortunately the state of Georgia frowns rather heavily on vacations.I had a hard time when Tyler missed school in third grade for a camping trip-the teacher didn't let him make up all his work.

From what I understand, in our county there are social workers that deal with only "these kids" that "skip" school.I know this is a poroblem but I am not it.

Teachers out there may know more than me on this but in Ga. you have to have a certain amount of attendance to be considered a school of excellence or some title like that.If our school had had two more abscences last year than we would have lost our title.The middle school in town lost theirs because of abscences last year.She said that because of this there is a zero tolerance on unexcused abscences.Well then change the policy. There is nothing any social worker or anyone else can do to us because we are following their rules.They may not like the rules anymore but as long as the rules stand as is then we are fine.And we are going to Disney.

They need to be going after the families that keep their kids home all day because they have a hair appointment! (Believe me, it happens!!)

I pull my own kids out of school for a few days to go on our Disney trips. It's the only way we can afford one, to travel in the off season. I am providing life experiences and family bonding that are crucial to my children's development. And I'd be happy to share that with a social worker.

Can you imagine the media getting a hold of that? "Mom accused of spoiling school's status by pulling kids out of class for Disney trip"

Im so sorry to hear about the teachers attitude! You go enjoy your vacation with your family and try not to worry about that stupid crap. My sons principal wasnt happy that I was pulling him out of school and she even mentioned that I will be getting some letters in teh mail for absentces, buther words were " just ignore them". I am a foster parent and I know that social workers have alot more important things to deal with than checking up on kids that got to take a vacation to WDW. So dont let it get you down- GO HAVE FUN!!! Only a couple more days 4 U ~WOOO HOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That would be my 15 min of fame. My sister who is a teacher in another school district but here in Ga. went last year and missed 5 days.She had no problems from it.

Last night we went to the mall because my mom had some awesome coupons for Limited Too.She had bought Rebekah some clothes there before school started and got $25 off of $50 coupons.Anyone who shops this store knows it doesn't take long to get to that amt.Well my mom spent $150 last night and got her three pairs of pants,one skirt,one pair capris,three shirts,two skorts and some lipgloss. This was great because this is one of the few places that carry Bekah's size. I took pictures of the ones that she will be taking to WDW.
I found these cotton skorts on the clearance rack for $5. They will be perfect for the trip.

Okay we had to go to the Disneystore because Harleygirl asked me to get her something there....
I got myself a studio collection Tink shirt like Rebekah's.I didn't take a pic because I posted one of Rebekah's a few pages back.It was $4.99.
Then on the clearance racks I found cute wallets and stationary sets.The notebooks in the sets will be used as their journals for the trips.The sets and wallets were marked down to $2.99.
The Tink one is Rebekah's.

I want to share some good school news.Peyton's class has been collecting good deeds or what they call compliments and have earned a party.Peyton was going to miss it because of the trip but his teacher said that couldn't happen because he has helped earn so many of the comlpliments.She moved the party to tomorrow so he can participate.
