My BIL and SIL asked DH and I to be Godparent's of our niece Eva :cloud9: . I'm curious as to what others have purchased for their Godchild for their Baptism/Christening?

I was planning on purchasing her Christening gown (if she doesn't have one that is passed down) and my MIL and FIL are planning on buying her a cross and a bible.

We gave my husband's Goddaughter an add a pearl necklace but I don't want to step on my MIL's toes since she is getting her a necklace as well. I already gave her a jewelry box and silver cuff bracelet monogramed with her initials when she was born so I'm not leaning towards anymore jewelry (although I'm open for suggestions). I was maybe going to crochet her a special blanket but I'm not sure. Any other suggestions?

Be sure to ask mom before you buy the Christening gown, she might want to do that or at least pick it out. We have given our Godchildren something religious, a cross necklace or something for their wall, hanging cross or a bedtime prayer and a savings bond.

My MIL made my goddaughter's christening gown from my SIL's wedding dress train so that was out as an idea. I cross-stitched a Precious Moments baby scene onto a blanket, we bought her a Precious Moments figurine, and bought her the Precious Moments baby's Bible.

Hope this helps!

Sorry... should have been more clear. It would definitely be cleared with her first :goodvibes

There are alot of baptism items out there. Picture frames are always nice. I know since you are Godparents you want to do more but it doesn't have to be. Your card could say it all, they have cards that say God child on them. Anything religious since you are suppose to be there spiritually for this child not how much you can spend on the child. A keepsake yes.

Our newest godson wore his family heirloom christening gown but I purchased a monogramed satin blanket for him to use with the gown. We also gave him a cross to hang on his wall, a small cross medal to hang on his crib and a savings bond toward his future. Dh and I give him a savings bond for each milestone such as each bday etc.

You could also give her rosary beads. I did purchase a set for Ryan but they were too feminine so I kept them for myself. :guilty:

Eva is fortunate to have such loving and attentive godparents. She is a beautiful child. :goodvibes

For my DH's godchild, we bought shares of stock to the bank for which we both work. We setup the account with his mother as custodian and we add money to that each time an event comes around. He'll be getting more money in September when he turns 2.

The account is setup to reinvest dividends and has already had a 10% stock dividend. We've been happy with the returns from this stock and we hope that when he gets to college, he'll have a nice little nest egg, started by his Godfather, to which other relatives can also add. The returns are far greater than savings bonds. I think we bought 6 or 8 shares for him when he was Christened.

With our Godchildren we did gold crosses.

I am eastern orthodox and when Ava got christened the Godparents are suppose to do the whole outfit and whatnot. Since her Godparents are not Orthodox we did it. But that is the normal custom with us.

I like the idea of maybe an account you can put money in or maybe a 529 for school. Corey and I have trained the grandparents to send the money right to Bright Start. Or maybe a beautiful chest for Eva to keep special things in?
