My parents are planning a week in July at Saratoga Springs. They were planning on just doing the pool and downtown disney for this trip. DH can't take off work, but my two sons (3 and 5) and myself have the opportunity to join them. I just can't seem to decide if i want to go or not! Disney is our family thing and it just seems weird to go without DH, even when we wont be hitting the parks. I am also wondering if it's worth flying down and being away from home to spend time at a pool. Anyone have these experiences or any advice? Just trying to think through anything before deciding! oh also, my younger son has peanut allergies and i have anxiety about flying with him (we always drive).

Well if it was me I would just pass. You couldn't pay me to get anywhere near downtown Disney with all the construction going on with or without my wife

I would go, but I use to take the kids places all the time when they were little and DH couldn't go. We are staying at Saratoga Springs in September and since you can just walk to DTD from there, I wouldn't let the construction stop me.

Bet the grandparents would have a hard time blowing off MK if their grandkids were there! I know I would. Even a character meal at one of the resorts would be fun with the 2 little guys.

I would go, and maybe try to go to MY for a day or two. Spend the rest of the time resort touring. Fish and take a carriage ride at POR, go to the stable at Fort wilderness, catch the outdoor movies, go to a couple character meals at the hotels. Have fun!

It wouldn't depend on my dh coming, as he could care less, but the budget. Maybe instead do a short trip your dh can do with the kids at a park, camping or special tours.
If the budget allows a hang out at a Disney pool and won't affect other family outings I would go.
Take your epi pen and make airline aware. I would take Lysol small pack of whiles and clean down the seat and trays.

For me, I can't imagine going that far and staying that long without going to the parks! Especially with little ones. And I also can't imagine going without my husband. If Disney weren't his thing, maybe. But if it's because he's stuck at work, just couldn't do it. Much as any trip to Disney sounds good, I think I'd pass on this one. Save the money and use it for a family trip.

I would pass..DH and I don't do separate vacas..Save the money and do a family vaca with DH and your kids. Also part of my opinion is your anxiety to flying..I am sure that your folks will understand. :goodvibes:flower1:

I would absolutely go to allow your children to make memories with your parents. Think of all the fun and bonding they would have, and the quality time it would allow you with them as well. We lost my dad when DS8 was a baby and my mom, just before he turned 4. He remembers my mom and we try hard to keep those memories by talking frequently about them. We also have a peanut allergy and for MOST PA kids, flying can be safe with lots of planning and precautions. I agree that if budget is not too tight, one day with the grandparents in the MK would be priceless, but even without that, pool, DTD, resort hopping, a few fun meal etc are great memory makers. Flying is an adventure in its self for young kids that have not flown before.

I would not wrestle two littles through airports alone for a Disney trip that didn't include the parks. You'd be hard pressed to get me to do that for anything short of a family emergency. Not my idea of a good time.

There's not enough money on the planet to persuade me to take a 3 and a 5 year old to sit around a Disney pool for a week in July, with or without grandparents.

I would be ok traveling solo with two small kids, but I don't think I could stand to vacation in Orlando without Universal or Disney visits. Uh-uh.

If it wouldn't hinder other opportunities to vacation together, I would totally go. We are currently on a non-park Disney trip and it has been a blast. My 7 and 4 year old children have been to the parks plenty of times. We are having a fantastic time hitting the pool, Downtown Disney, character breakfasts at resorts, mini golfing, going to the movies, and riding the monorail. My kiddos haven't felt deprived of the rides and we are having a very relaxing and enjoyable vacation together. We are also spending one night at the airport hotel because that's another thing to check off the kids' non-park bucket lists.

This sort of Disney trip isn't for every family but it is working out well for us and we haven't felt bored or deprived of entertainment or Disney fun.

thanks so much for all the opinions!! I really could not decide what to do (what a terrible dilemma! haha) and was just going to say forget it when DH told me to just fly down myself for the weekend (we have SW points) and go to MK with my mom! No worries about bored kids, magic kingdom and me time?! I was sold! I've never been away from my kids before but I figure a couple days will be good for everyone!

As a grandparent myself, boy do I agree with this! I'll bet if you ask the grandparents, they'll beg you to still go. I'd encourage you to go, but just the opposite if a poster above, DH and I vacation separately all the time. He goes on his golfing vacations, and I frequently go to WDW solo-my first solo WDW trip was a gift from him!

Go! I'm going in November without DH. Just me, my oldest DD21 and my youngest DD7 are going. DH and the middle 2 kids are choosing not to come. Crazy, right?? Enjoy your trip!!

It's up to you. I do it all the time but I would buy park tickets since you will be there a week

Sounds like it will be a wonderful trip- and a great way to spend some alone time with your mom. Couldn't have worked out better. Be sure to book a special table service restaurant for you and your mom. As a mom of two little ones, I imagine you don't get much time to have a relaxing dinner.

Your final decision confuses me. Taking the kids without your DH caused you internal conflict, but going on vacation without kids or Dh Is a-ok?

I'd be uncomfortable leaving my whole family at home while I vacation, but that's just me.
