Today was a full day in Yosemite, so much so that tonight there would be no camp cooking as it was take out pizza from the visitor cafe is Yosemite. Anyway we were all up about 7am, had breakfast, made our lunches to take with us and soon headed off into the park. It was a lovely sunny day and quite warm, first stop was tunnel view
Then we were dropped off at the main car park and split up into smaller groups to do various hikes, depending on how much we wanted to do. I opted to go for one of the medium length hikes as did several others and we then got the shuttle to start it. We decided on the Vernal and Nevada Falls
For quite a while we followed alongside the river which was flowing very quickly due to the snow melt from the above average snowfall last winter!
In the distance you could see other waterfalls
Then there were more rapids
As we got closer to the Vernal Falls we saw the weather report
Then it was onwards and upwards to the Vernal Falls via the Mist Trail, which should have been called the Totally Drenched Trail!
Soon we were at the top but also a bit wet!! Although the view was worth it
We stopped for lunch and a little break, the sun was starting to come out so we also started to dry off. Soon we were on our way again and it wasnt long before we could see the top of the Nevada Falls
By now we had been walking a good few hours and were at the foot of the Nevada Falls
As we got higher we got a better view back into the Yosemite Valley
And it was only 0.2 miles to the top
Once at the top the view was well worth the 4 hour hike!
Then we walked on to start our descent
On the way we could see the Yosemite Falls in the far distance
Once at the bottom we got the shuttle back to Curry Village and then went to the visitor centre before meeting for pizza, which was well needed after a 6 hour+ hike!! Then we all headed back to camp and took one last look at the Yosemite Valley
We had not been back at the camp long before we could hear thunder in the distance, then the rain started. Michael decided at about 9pm to drive those of us that wanted to use the internet to the clubhouse which was a distance away. So we stayed there until about 10.30pm when it closed and during this time the rain came down and the storm got quite close and that was the way it stayed for most of the night, doh!
