If any of you start coming down with the stomach flu that has hit the mid-eastern coast go to the Dr's..

I fought it for days and finally ended up in the ER with a completely messed up blood stream, seems my red cells have run away and the white ones have moved in. The ER said they are seeing lots of cases of track and blood infections because of this flu and people not getting treated early enough. I can tell you this is NO fun, I have zero energy, writing this warning is wearing me out LOL... I had to have 2 IV's, and am on 2 meds and bedrest... Go to the Dr's.. You dont want this..

I dont think there is much a doctor can do. It is a virus and not treatable with meds. Just take losts of fluids if you can hold them down and rest. Otherwise it has to run its course. We had it for 3 weeks and I have cleaned my house with clorox twice a week for a month. It is the only thing that kills the virus. Good luck it sucks. I know first hand.

Hope you feel better soon :grouphug:

Ugh! Hope you get to feeling better soon, it sounds absolutely miserable.

Six of my fifth graders have been sick with a stomach virus. I'm praying I don't get it!

Hope you feel better soon....that's not a nice way to spend a week.

I fear that my Mom has this...

She thinks it's just 'something she ate', but the chills and, um, 'toilet upset' have lasted for four days, now...

She *won't* go to a doctor. :sad2:

I may have to rope her and drag her there, this is nothing to fool around with...

Sad to hear that, hope you feel better soon. Take lots of rest. :thumbsup2

Have a nice day to you. :)

A co-worker and her husband had this same illness. She brought her husband to the ER. He need IV fluids. My husband came home the other night complaining of chills and diarrhea. Luckily it only lasted 48 hrs.

We came down with this stomach flu on our WDW vacation last week. Both my son and I had to go to the E.R. for dehydration, and found out he also had bronchitis and an ear infection.

It's nasty stuff, and has been making the rounds with all of our family and friends here in MI, too (although we definitely caught it in FL). Is this some kind of unknown, "bird flu"-esque thing that's all over the country?

Renysmom-Glad you got help and you're on the road to recovery. Best wishes!

It's probably a norovirus, of which outbreaks are common every winter. It is NOT a flu. Some years are worse than others, and it's spread by the fecal-oral route. It takes very, very little virus to infect, and persists for a good while in its contagious state even after the symptoms subside, so people think they're all better, go back out into the population, and spread it to more people. It has not been shown to spread by respiratory inhalation, but by touching objects or eating food touched by an infected person. Wash your hands!

That's the crazy thing - I had heard about this before heading to FL and was ultra-vigilant about hand-washing, Purell, etc. after every attraction, before every meal...but my kids always have their hands near their faces and since it takes just one swipe of germs - we got sick anyway.

Stay healthy, everybody!
